This week's battle challenge focuses on the Scavenger ability:
Gains 1 max health each time any monster dies.
Ability Overview
Its been ages since the weekly battle challenge focused on ability. The Scavenger ability allows monsters to gain +1 health each time any monster dies in battle. Thanks to the Splintercards site, there are currently 9 monsters with the Scavenger ability. When you look at the 9 monsters, the monsters that all have low starting health all have the Opportunity ability, which allows these monsters to be placed in the middle of the backline shielded by the tanks leading the line. At the same time, they can support the team by doing damage. The hope being is that they can survive so that the Scavenger ability can proc to boost their health then. One more popular Scavenger ability monster is the Gelatinous Cube. This reward edition card is available to all players when they complete their daily reward loot chests and seasonal reward loot chests. I will use the Screeching Vulture for the battle, which I have previously written about as one of the Cheap OP cards in splinterlands.

Did your strategy work? What will you try differently next time?
Screeching Vulture started the battle with 2 health, and by the end of the battle, it had accumulated 9 health. Thank you, Scavenger ability! In hindsight, I got lucky due to the opponent playing a level 1 Cave Slug. If the Cave Slug was at a higher level, then this battle may have gone south quickly. My opponent opted for a double Tank Heal combo (Angel of Light + Divine Healer), which may have worked had they not played a level 1 Cave Slug. Also, my opponent's total damage went into battle with 7 total damage (2 melee + 4 range + 1 magic) vs my total monster damage of 9 total damage (2 melee + 2 magic + 5 range). As for how did the Screeching Vulture fair in this battle - well, it excelled! I had to laugh when the Screeching Vulture killed Cave Slug, for the Cave Slug to be resurrected via the Angel of Light Resurrect ability - easy +2 health right there.
Do you like the Scavenger ability? Why or why not?
The Scavenger ability can help monsters increase their survivability in battle. The key challenge is figuring out how to shield these Scavenger's ability to survive long enough for the Scavenger ability to proc multiple times. The battle mentioned above, playing Scavenger ability monsters in Fog of War rulesets, is a must as monsters with Scavenger ability usually get picked off quickly in the backline. Therefore, in Fog of War battles, all monsters lose their Sneak and Snipe abilities. Also, Gelatinous Cube and Ant Miners are still in print, and therefore all players would be able to attain these monsters by completing their daily quests and seasonal rewards.
