Deconstruction of Death

Obituaries often beat us today. In many parts of the world, pandemics and conflicts leave us trapped in anxiety. Every day, the number of victims continues to grow. Without clarity and criticality, all of this can sink into the fear that kills them.

My best friend, an indie musician, also recently died. He is a figure who has inspired so many musicians in his community. The figure is strong and colorful. His death made his friends even more afraid and anxious, especially amid a pandemic which was continuously reported unequally by the media and the government.

However, if we realize it more deeply, death always lurks us all the time. Since birth, we are always on the way to death. Martin Heidegger, a German thinker, understands humans as creatures that are on their way to death (Sein zum Tode). Every second, since we were born, we are dying.

We often forget this. We feel death is an exception. Death is considered an extraordinary event. Not. Death is as natural as the wind blowing, and the birds sing.

Wrong View

Unfortunately, we are often poisoned by the wrong view of death. We live in a society that has a perverted view of death. Death is considered a defeat. Just look at the films shown in the media. Death is the final defeat of a hated enemy.

So, death must be avoided. People must live healthy so that they can live long. People should pray hard so that they can live long. Either way, death must be destroyed from life.

Even death is considered a disease. This is the view of modern technologists trying to get around death. The advancement of genetic engineering technology seems to make this possible. This perverted view only makes us confused and suffering, when death comes.

For those who are young and healthy, death seems far away. Often, they feel, that they never die. Healthy body. Lots of savings. Glorious career. Who has time to talk or think about death?

Even then, death only became news in the media. Death, in other words, always happened to other people. However, before long, death was bound to come. He can pick up friends or relatives, but also can pick us up.

Death, in the end, is just a matter of queuing up. Who was the first to go? Who is the latter? That's the only question. There are no exceptions.

Deconstruction of Death

In early 2020, Sadhguru, a Yogi from India, wrote a book that took the world by storm. The title is Death: An Inside Story. He said, "This is a book for those who are going to die." In short, this is the book for all of us.

This book talks about death straightforwardly. No filter by author. He wrote down all his knowledge and experiences about death. I felt a little horrified when I read this book intensively.

Speaking of death, Sadhguru did not quote the stories. He refuses to speak fairy tales about death. No heaven is used to deceive people. No hell is used to scare people. There is no manipulation typical of heretical religions.

The truth is, for Sadhguru, we never die. There is only change. We continue to live but in a new way of life. We move from one dimension to another.

This change (called "death") occurs slowly. When the body is damaged, whether due to illness or accident, people don't go away. The energy came out slowly and gradually. In some places, people can even come back to life, after they have been pronounced dead by doctors.

After "Death"

This change (death) occurs by the pattern of life previously lived. Everyone has habits in his life. Habit is what remains as energy when people "die". In Indian tradition, this habit is also known as karma, which is the pattern of our actions that shape our personality and habits.

For example, we used to do bad things. We used to do unfair things in life. We used to oppress. We used to envy and envy others.

After death, this habit of hate and evil remains. No more personality. There is only evil, hateful energy. Suffering is inevitable.

On the other hand, if we live with a kind and loving attitude, that's what's left, when we "die". We become gentle energy full of kindness. We become an energy that is also full of happiness. Therefore, we need to live well and love each other.

After that, the existing energy will look for a new body. This is the thinking basis for the process of rebirth, or reincarnation. The evil and hateful energy will find a body that is evil and full of hatred. Good and loving energy will also find a good and loving body.

Evil and good here are a matter of mental state. It exists beyond the morality created by society. Evil is a state of mind that is full of hatred. Meanwhile, good is a state of mind that is full of peace.

A criminal (in the eyes of society) can have a peaceful mind. On the other hand, a prominent religious leader (in the eyes of the people) can have a mind full of hatred. The two of them will be different energies. Their direction after death is highly dependent on the habits of the existing mind.

After "death", morality is useless. Morality is only a human creation to organize life together. It is never absolute. It keeps changing.

Big names, money, and power are also useless after "death" comes. These three things only matter if people have bodies. After "death", one has to let go of the body. So, big names, money, and power will also have to be released.

Sadhguru also emphasizes the importance of meditation. In this sense, meditation is a way of practicing mindfulness. We learn to be fully aware from moment to moment in our lives. We are not lost in thoughts or emotions, but we are still awake and aware of all circumstances.

When we "die," trained consciousness can make us free from suffering. We can choose to be born again, or not. In the Asian tradition, the person who is not reborn is free. He has experienced Mukti, Moksha, or Nirvana. If this conscious energy chooses to be reborn, then it will become a great person, either a saint or a great ruler.

Family and What's Left

What about the role of the family in "death"? Sadhguru emphasized that the family should stay away in the process of death. The presence of family can make people nervous, whether because of old memories, or disappointment that has not been completed. Due to anxiety and anxiety, one then cannot "die" in peace.

If a person is felt to be approaching "death", then he needs to be allowed to live alone in the open. Forests and mountains can be the right place. He must see himself as part of nature and will return to nature itself. Only in this way, "death" can be a peaceful and relaxing process.

Often, it is the family who cannot let go. Here the importance of ritual, namely to help families release the "dead" in peace. There are various forms of ritual introducing death. Each civilization has its characteristics.

What is important to understand is, that after "death", people have lost all their personalities. He is no longer the same human. He no longer has any connection with the family he left behind because he has let go of his body. It returns to the energy that only has certain drives and habits.

The belongings of the deceased must also be immediately distributed to various places. The family cannot own it exclusively. At best, the items of the deceased are donated to those in real need. With this, the energy released in the "death" process can go away in peace, unattached.

Ghost?

We are all ghosts. We are energy. There is energy still in the body. This means people are still alive. There is the energy that has been released from the body and is called "death".

After "death", personality disappears. What remains is habitual energy. Often the energy has not completely disappeared so that people who are still alive can still see its form. He was still left, then became a ghost for many people.

The reasons are various. Usually, it is a very strong bond with the world, or with the family that was left behind. The bonds are so tight and attract the life energy of a person, that they cannot leave completely.

This kind of ghost has no common sense. It has no will. He also has no personality. It is only the remaining energy, and only appears to the human eye. There are several rituals to get rid of ghosts. This means that this energy can be encouraged to completely fuse back with the universe.

Death is Life

In the end, death is life itself. Death is simply a change from one way of life to another. So, he shouldn't be afraid. He also doesn't need to be tabbed.

Death needs to be understood for what it is. It needs to be viewed as healthily and objectively. Only in this way, one can go through the process of death calmly and peacefully. His life was also lived with great relief.

Finally, to My Friends and victims of pandemics and conflicts around the world, there is no word of goodbye. What is more precise is, happy to live a new life. That's what happened. Hopefully, find enlightenment in the next life.

Amazing article. I’m a big believer of Sadhguru! One small correction though it’s in Hindu tradition not Indian tradition. You can be a Hindu anywhere in the world and can believe in karma.
