You will encounter those who ask you to give much in pursuit of something greater than yourself. A boss tells you to sacrifice time with family for the company. Your President asks you to give your life in a pointless war, for the good of the nation...
To them, I say: What company can be more important than the smile on a boy's face as he plays catch with his father? What greatness does a man die for in a foreign country, facing down other people like him who just want to go home to their families?
No. There is nothing greater than you. You are life. You are possibility. The universe brings you here with these abilities, these wondrous things we call emotions. Pain and fear may weigh us down, but we fight that way may feel joy, comfort, and love.
Take this grand opportunity you've been given to explore this amazing planet full of vibrant plants, animals and peoples. Interact, learn and grow. Find new ways to experience life, and step outside of your comfort zone. Help others, when you can.
We all follow our own paths, but in the end the result is the same. Everyone dies, and there are no second chances. How do you define success? By the wealth or possessions you leave for heirs to squabble over? By greatness achieved in war or business? Bah.
These things trivialize life, and they take our humanity. You are not a machine to turn on and work a specific function for a specific period of time. Nor are you a weapon, meant to destroy and kill others in the name of glory.
You might take on some unsavory roles in order to survive in life, but please remember that's what this is. Your life. It's the most important thing, the only thing you have. It can be painful, but it can also be beautiful. Please, find a path worth walking. Live before you die.
This was orginally written as a Noise post, but I felt it was long enough and important enough to bring over here. This is something I've thought about a lot, and I really hope I got my message across.

I guess I would say that things that make life worth living is the pursue of happiness and freedom, if you have no freedom you have nothing and eventually freedom will have to be protected by the people as well. At in the US we have the constitution but the government is trying to take that away little by little, and they also want the people to lose the ability to protect that constitution as well, eventually if the government keeps at infringing the constitution there is going to be a civil war there the US citizen will have to fight their own army to protect the constitution. But as long as American can have arm they government knows can't go overboard otherwise they know that the constitution was made with that purpose to remove any politician that goes overboard.
Every 4 years or so we choose our next leaders but if those leaders start to just go against the people sooner or later something will have to give so far the US people have tried to love peace and continue their life just by pursuing happiness and freedom. But the future is always the great unknown.
But the best way to live or what is worth dying for is freedom and happiness. And I would say that those two things are what make life great to live.
