Scary Stories: Poison/Hiluan

Are you familiar with the word Poison? I'm sure you are lol. But there's a myth or a legend here in the Visayas about the origin of the Hiluan.

Are you ready to listen? I mean, read about it? Go and get your popcorn and don't forget your juice. Let's fasten your seatbelt and oops...

We are going to the Visayas where the land of monsters, creepy creatures, and witches. Prepare your broom hahaha. Let's fly up to the sky! Kidding aside, let's start our storytelling.

MANLALASON/HILUAN

They belong to the clan of "Aswang". A bloodsucker monster creature like vampires. But Aswang is different in terms of eating fresh human organs like the heart, liver, and other parts of the human body. Just wow! Creepy and Eww! But that's what the legend says here.

Let me tell you a very short story about Aswang. Last week, our neighbor was rushed to the hospital riding an ambulance. But before that, the dogs are barking noisily. It's creepy in the ears. In Tagalog's term, "NAKAKAPANGILABOT" All the hairs of your body will stand up.

It was said that when the dogs are barking. The patient will surely die! But she didn't die on that day. She went home but the creepy thing is ever since that day. I will always hear footsteps coming from the back then will cross my roof and will jump from the neighbor's rooftop then it will go.

It is always like that. The footsteps are too heavy! More than like a human foot. I have a gut feeling that it is an Aswang. Later on, the patient died and was buried.

For a short while, the Aswang didn't show up but never thought that it will come back! Mostly every night our roof is noisy with heavy footsteps. But never mind that haha. Let's proceed to our main topic instead.

Poison usually happened when there is a town fiesta or a celebration. Usually, the Hiluan is the owner of the house. So, be careful if ever you will attend a town fiesta especially if you don't know the house owner. But here's your luck because not all the people will be poisoned. If you're unlucky and eat the food with poison then that's bad.

The Hiluan will have a headache if they can't poison someone. They felt uneasy unless they will release the poison. And they will have a severe headaches. They put their poison usually in foods and sometimes in juices, soft drinks, or water. And I saw before in a movie that the poison is coming from their fingernails! Well, it's just in a movie lol.

It was believed that if you ate the poison you will die immediately. But here in my place, there's some kind of poison. The "HILO LAYGAY" is a poison that will slowly kill you. But if it will be discovered early. There's a chance that you might live. A Faith Healer with knowledge about this poison can cure you.

There's a "HILO PATAY" which means that you will die instantly the moment the Hiluan will look you in the eyes. There's no chance of survival unless you got a fighting spirit!

The symptoms of being poisoned are severe headache and stomach pain followed by vomiting. Cold body and black fingernails. It was said that there's a cure for this. It's a miraculous plant called "TAMBALAGISAN". It can cure severe headaches and stomach pain but I don't know this plant. Hopefully, it can be found easily. Just refer to the photo above.

Some people in here will put chili in their pocket because it can fight the poison or whatsoever lol haha. But that's what they said. And here's another thing that I learned. If you see your plate is smoking hot and very delicious to look at. Touch under the plate and if it's cold then there's poison in your food. Don't eat it!
