Oh little mice living down the food chain,
Toiling daily yet still a low-life prey.
Predators hunting to keep you at bay
Hungry for boon, which to you is a bane
Don’t care if you suffer for still they gain
For them, you’re nothing but a price to pay
There is no escape - you can’t leave nor stay.
No Choice, but to stand there and wait in vain.
Oh little birds, with crowded nests or none
A flock too many, provisions too less
It can be fixed, yet the system’s broken
Search for a new nest and follow the sun
Fly and reach the highest mountain crest,
Lacked in feathers, yet wings still in motion.
Explanation:
At first glance, you may think that the sonnet is all about animals specifically the predator and prey relationship. Actually, it’s not all about animals but it’s all about a current issue in our society. I wanted to do something different in making this sonnet. So, I thought about the problem that our society is facing right now. One of the major problems of our society right now is poverty. I thought of making this sonnet to give a message of the struggles and lives of the people in poverty.
Is this an old piece your wrote? I mean, you write great literary poems!
