“Are you going home?” her co-worker asked.

“Yes, see you on tuesday!” she said lively.

Samantha Leigh, 28, a well-known registered nurse. She’s the epitome of kindness and beauty that’s why everyone loves her. Little did they know, she’s trapped in the past that’s still hunting her until now.

After collecting her things, she got out of the locker’s room and walks gracefully in the hallway. She was about to go right when she heard a child’s whimper. It’s strange for her because she’s not alone, there are people walking back and forth around her.

To feed her curiosity, she searched where it came from and found out that it’s in the left side of the hallway. In an empty room, she found a girl crouching in the far side area.

“boohoo, she doesn’t love me!” the child sobbed.

Sam smiled, she knew to herself that she can handle this kind of situation because she’s a nurse and she’s been into this kind of state.

“hey, kid,” she greeted. Sam was about to pat her head when the child lifted it up.

“Aw, what a cute girl, “she said, looking at the child lovingly.

“Am I? Then why did mommy abandoned me?” asked the child.

Sam looks confused.

“Why did you aborted me?” asked the child again.

The little girl stood up, with her small feet, she walked towards Sam.

“Mommy, why?”

Sam doesn’t know what to do. Her feet were glued to the ground.

“Look at me, mommy” the girl turned around.

“I’m a big girl now. I should be.”

Tears rolled down her cheeks as soon as memories flashed through her mind. She can’t stand any longer, guilt is visible on her face. Sam kneeled down and face the child.

“I’m so sorry, anak” she hugged her child.

“I’m so sorry, mommy was naïve and selfish” she caresses her hair. She was about to carry her, but the child pushed her.

Shock was registered on her face.

The child looks angry, sad, and pained. She shooked her head.

“No, no, mommy, doesn’t love me”

“No, no, mommy, abandoned me”

“No, no, mommy, killed me”

“Mommy, is a murderer.”

After saying those words, the child ran and nowhere to be found. Samantha left dumbfounded. Kneeling on the ground, she lowered her head and cried.

Sam woke up from another nightmare. Bad memories from the past that she wanted to forget were replayed on her dreams every night and hunted her non stop.

Ten years ago, Samantha got pregnant. She was just 18, still young and still depending on her parents. Since, she doesn't still know on how things go, she decided to abort the baby.

Ten years have passed but it's still in her. She can't forgive herself for what she have done. The baby should be ten years old now and having the time of her life but she deprived her for having those.

"Anais, I had a bad dream again." She said to her psychiatrist friend.

"Do you know why are you having bad dreams over and over again?" Anais asked.

Sam shooked her head as a response.

"It's because you can't forgive yourself." Anais said.

"Then why is it a bad dream?" Sam asked.

"Maybe your child wanted you to unleash it. Look, because of that bad dream you're here having a session with me."

Sam's eyes glistened with tears. She nodded as a response to what her friend said. After that, she finally gave up and shared her past to her friend.

After sharing she found her friend smiling at her.

"I'm so proud of you." Dr. Anais said.

"You finally open up about it. Way to go my friend." She stood up and hugged Sam tightly.

"Don't forget to visit your baby's grave, i'm sure she's also proud of you. The decisions you've made from the past molded you from what you are now."

So, overcome the pain of living inside of us. Let’s make a commitment to learning from those experiences, acknowledging the hurt, and move forward to live a life without carrying baggage on our shoulder. Letting go means finding your own happiness.
