Lately, COVID 19 positive cases were increasing drastically in the Philippines. The Palace always reiterates that everything is under control. You can read it here for full context.
Recently, Interior Sec. Eduardo Año announced that police and health representatives will conduct a house to house search for asymptomatic COVID-19 patients. Everyone that will be proven positive, will be transferred to isolation facilities.
This announcement creates some sort of fear to other people thinking that this action of the government will cause abuse to power. Some say that this is unlawful under the Constitution.
I am a little bit hesitant to give some comments here but I will try to be fair and present the advantage and disadvantages of this govt action.
Advantages:
Stop the transmission -We can stop the possible community transmission and further spread of the disease.
Helps to flatten the curve -As we isolate those who have the disease, they can't infect anyone resulting in the reduced number of confirm cases.
The deaths will be minimized-We can early detect the infected individuals and treat them immediately avoiding severe cases that can lead to fatalities.
Give spare time to hospitals -As the number of positive cases decreases, the health care system will not be overwhelmed.
Disadvantages:
Creates fear among the people -With police bringing their guns as they knock at every house, some individuals may find it very intimidating and may result in trauma.
Prone to the abuse of power - Others say that this action of the govt is unlawful under the constitution. As we go back to some govt policies, especially the war on drugs, many were killed without proper judicial process. Some of them are proven innocent.
For me, continuing this action is a great step for eradicating COVID-19. But instead of using the police force on conducting house to house searches, health care workers should be in the frontline of doing the action.
PS: Despite Año's statement, Spokesperson Harry Roque, clarified that there will be no house to house search for possible COVID-19 confirm cases.

I agree in continuing the action. But health workers have already too much too do. We lack of it. I think it's only okay to let the other organization take care of the act. But to be fair to boths sides, a health worker could lead the armed forces. That way the citizens feel more secured. Great article kli4rd! Such unbiased opinions. Continue to write more!
