A Writers guide on Ways to Improve your Writing.

Being a writer is not an easy thing to achieve. Being successful at this is even harder. Everyone can write a story. Everyone has a story to tell, but what distinguishes some stories is how they're written.

Before a novel or a story is made . It first comes as an idea in the writer’s mind. A series of secret images that are engraved in their minds waiting to be told. The writer gives life to the images through the use of words, allowing readers to read and also enjoy the story. With this in mind writing can be a perfect way to express yourself. Show your imagination! Some writers have used their books to address political, social, and even economic issues throughout history. issues that they deem worthy of being in the spotlight.

Writing can be hard. But with practice and some improvement tips, you will be able to see your writing improve in drastic ways. With this in mind, let's now try and talk about a few tips to help improve your writing skillset.

Reading is everything.

This is the most common type of tip you will receive on your quest to become a successful writer. This tip, but, is the most genuine and accurate there is, if you use it, so pay attention. You can learn a lot from reading books. Especially when you are stuck on which type of person's point of view or writing style you want to go with.

To normal readers, you read a book and you get sucked into the story until the end. You do not pay attention to the little details, such as;

1) how the writer decided to introduce their characters.

2) What type of literary devices they used, what was the tone of the book.

3)Are evident plot holes, what hidden messages the writer placed within the story.

4) How many hints have been placed in the book.

5)How the writer used the dialogue within the story to enhance or move the story forward.

All these things need to be analyzed by a writer. Every book that you, as a writer, will read, you need to pick it apart and place it back together like a perfect puzzle.

Prompts and challenges are your best friends.

When I give you this tip, the cliché statement that practice makes perfect can be used. Writing is like riding a bike. The first time you fall down, you feel horrible that you can’t ride. Desperate and sad, but once you actually learn how to handle it, then the world is your oyster.

Writing is the same. The first time you try to write, it can have a small, if not a lot of mistakes. But once you try and practice a little more, as well as try and mimic some writers' writing styles. This may help you improve your work as a writer.

So the next time you feel that writing short stories. involve yourself in writing competitions. or even searching for prompts is stupid and won’t help. keep in mind that practice makes perfect.

Make writing a habit.

This sounds complicated, and in a way, it is. Writing is difficult, and sometimes you do not want to pick up a pen or sit in front of a computer and start writing. If you do want to improve your writing. You must make the ultimate sacrifice and keep a writing schedule for yourself. No, you do not have to write a novel or a screen play. You can decide to write anything at random, put your heart into it, and you’ll see it through.

Writing in general is quite tiresome if you do not have the heart for it. But if you set a fixed schedule for your writing, it may go a long way in improving how you write.

Attempt to Get Feedback

It is quite difficult as a writer to allow people to critique your work, even more so for people who you do not know. We view our writing process as a piece of ourselves, like an artist who has made their masterpiece. To us, creative writing is an art form, and the pages that we write are our art.

Writing is a process that has many stages, and a key one is critique, or feedback. If you are afraid to take the plunge into this. then the finding audience to give you honest feedback on your book would be the best option. This could be family or a group of likeminded writers.

Ask a book /writing club, to read some of your sample work and let them tell you their honest opinion about it.

If the challenge is that you as a writer are not ready to listen to critique from people you may know. You can join a writer’s platform such as Wattpad. This will allow you to gain the feedback you need while being anonymous. You can see who are interested in your story and ask for honest reviews of what they think and how you could enhance it.

Try to always have an ending.

Often times, we fail to complete even the simplest of writing tasks. It can be difficult to finish or achieve your writing goals.

Try sectioning out a writing timetable to help you finish any work in progress. For example; you have a book you are currently writing and you are struggling to finish three chapters by the end of next week. What you can try to do is set up several small time frames during the course of your day. And without fail, sit down and write the number of words or paragraphs you have set for those few minutes.

You can have four sections of thirty-minute time frames for completing your goals. then your writing will go smoother, and who knows, you may be shocked to find that your writing has improved .

Study the Art of Writing.

Writing is an art. There are writers whose names and fame live on despite their demise years ago. Writers like William Shakespeare, Mark Twain, Jane Austin, Harper Lee, and so many more. Other writers' work has had a significant impact on society even today.

No matter the genre you want to write about or the type of writing style you want to use. You first need to understand its existence, what the rules are guiding them and how to use them. You cannot have book with a vampire plot that has the essence of the supernatural and call it action. There is a high chance that if you do that, you may be booking yourself a one-way ticket to being canceled and shunned.

You need to make sure you have categorized your book. If the general theme is romance with a hint of spooky, then your core genre is romance and your sub-genre is horror. If you have decided to write a science fiction book. Then have you decided on which point of view you will base your book on?

If you decide to make a fantasy series. Make sure you have you done your research on what your fictional world. What it would look like. How the reader will keep track of the new names. And how other fantasy books cooperate with the essence of magic in them?

All in all, it is important to realize that being a good writer does not mean that you have a high IQ above everyone else. and that you have wild ideas beyond anyone’s wildest dreams. Being a writer is all about putting in the effort and taking the time to learn the craft in detail. focusing on even the little things that make your writing unique.

We can learn so much from other successful writers. We can learn to digest the books we read and not skim through them, not understanding what is going on on the page.
