I support Bitcoin Cash Node

29 639

In support of the goal of allowing Bitcoin Cash to become the best money the world has ever seen, I support the Bitcoin Cash node project.

For those unfamiliar with who I am, I helped Bitcoin Cash launch in August of 2017 by creating the first Bitcoin Cash wallet (Electron Cash), a project I am still the lead maintainer for. I am also an author of the SLP specification for Bitcoin Cash tokens, and an author of the Cash Fusion privacy solution.

Message:

I, Jonald Fyookball, support Bitcoin Cash node for the May 15 2020 upgrade.

jonald, I draw my hat. rethinking your stance towards the IFP despite your project being one of the 4 beneficiaries is a feat not many are capable of. I would like to think I could do it myself, but I'm not so sure.

thank you for being open-minded and re-thinking things!

Thanks but honestly my choice was easy. The community more or less rejected the idea. If that makes me a bandwagon follower, then guilty as charged. #consensus.

And here I thought we all agree, that

nakamoto consensus > social consensus.

So, do you see BCN and ABC supporting communities both co-existing after the fork? Or do you think there should be only one community?

In the Bitcoin Cash ecosystem, there is nothing with any amount of reasonable consensus to support a split. That includes IFP, especially with the botched BIP9 implementation. That includes pools and miners. Splitting the ecosystem on BCHN and ABC lines is weird.

Having said that, I expect a full ecosystem transition for the May upgrade from ABC to BCHN. After that, we will see how it goes.

Can I share some of your positivity, please? in other words, can you elaborate a bit on why you expect a full transition?

What I have learned from talking with miners is that they have their own circles of communication. There is a lot of communication and movement going on there that is not visible on social media. Poolin already got surprised (and shocked) by ABC upgrade when they started running it and switched over. You can be sure something similar will happen with others.

And just imagine that - this is the pools leading. You would think exchanges go first because it's a no-brainer, low-risk change for them. But pools are going first! Exchanges will be incredibly negligent not to follow.

This shows the primary community split attack strategy now. First the anti-BCH forces split some important community members off. Now the attack-fork team pretends the obvious thing to do is for everyone to abandon BCH's primary development team and join the attack. They find miners who hate the idea of some BCH hash rate moving to the BTC chain (thus causing BTC miners to help pay for BCH development funding) and pretend the "obvious" thing to do is to have all the exchanges and other businesses join in on the split attack.

This would be the right thing to do if the primary team had been corrupted or proposed a significant unsupported change to the code. The attackers social engineering has pushed a "corrupt ABC" false narrative quite effectively. There is little or no real evidence of any corruption. Yes, the IFP as implemented sucks and needs to be fixed. Yes, ABC acted stupidly to push it into the code the way they did. That said, this is an attempt to let Miners donate money they have already earned to our developers. Our developers are developing scaling too slowly and we need the funding to go to solving that issue. There is no real corruption here. What we need is to work together as a community to fix the problems.

The dark forces and BTC miners behind this attack will try not to let that happen. The miners are opposed to BCH funding it's developers in a way that makes BTC miners help pay for it. The dark forces are opposed to BCH becoming peer-to-peer electronic cash for the world's people. They will team up to demand all of the community join their attack on ABC and the miners attempt to fund our developers.

BCHN is by far the lowest chance of a split considering ABC's IFP + BIP9. There is no pretending involved. I think you do not understand the game of russian roulette that BCH has been forced to play by ABC. BCH Node allows us not to play that game.

A low chance of a split IF you assume all support will abandon ABC and follow your fork that opposes setting up an automated way of letting miners donate to BCH developers. No better strategies. Just "no". And, "our way" or a massively damaging split.

Your reply confirms that you don't understand both the details and the BCHN strategy. I'm sorry I'm tired of responding to you.

So you say "nothing with any amount of reasonable consensus to support a split" and you go on to say everyone will join your side of the split. So, no split because everyone will abandon the old BCH and join in the new BCHN. It is true real BCH fans want to avoid a split. Your attack by people who seem willing to cause a split hopes that will cause all the pro-BCH people to join the people who do not care enough to be sure we even try to avoid a split. So, if you love BCH, you must join the splitting attack or you will allow a split to happen.

And, after May, we will see how it goes? You want to take over BCH and wait until after that to let us know your strategy for the future?

I don't think you understand the technical details well enough because your description doesn't make any sense. Using a different implementation doesn't cause a split. Multiple BIP9 activated soft forks on a minority chain for a highly contentious change is what creates the chance of a split. In other words, even if IFP is activated, there are no pools or miners to support it. Show me one that has said they will support it. I can show you one that says they will not - Jiang Zhuoer's BTCTOP which published the IFP idea in the first place.

I would be happy to explain in more detail if you contact me on telegram.

I hope a compromise can be reached and suspect ABC will withdraw the current IFP implementation or find a way to make sure it does not activate and cause a community and coin split. I believe they will capitulate to the BCHN demands to stop from splitting the community because they care about BCH more than the forces behind this attack fork. If it was not a coin-splitting attack, your team would not need to call on exchanges to add your new fork to their exchange.

Thanks Jonald, your support means a lot to the people working hard on Bitcoin Cash Node who would be happy to work together with you & everyone else who supports Bitcoin Cash!

To the Bitcoin Cash Node project comptroller: I blew $1 on a tip for this. Just disclosing because I've said elsewhere I will forward all my tips to the project, but I know Jonald will put this to as good a use as we ever can. (and technically it's still coming out of tips I earned before BCHN was a thing :-p )
