Often there is something that nobody speaks about and that we do not mention in what we wrote. Panic psychology and reasons for stock attitude. When we look at the research for these attitudes that arise with people panicking, I can see several reasons. I would like to tell you about the psychological ones of these reasons.

We are worried that something has happened to our health, that something has happened to the health of a loved one, or even infecting someone we do not know with this virus. So why do we panic? What are the psychological reasons underlying our panic? What does research say about this?

Some studies show that the thought mistakes we make make us more panicked. We tend to make thought mistakes in stressful situations. Thought errors are a subject we work a lot in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. When people encounter a negative situation in their daily life as well as in matters related to the agenda, they tend to make many thought mistakes such as catastrophizing, generalizing, and so on.

When a plane crash occurs, they avoid getting on the plane, when there is news of a shark attack, they think all sharks are aggressive. For example, when we look at this situation, it is possible that the effects of the Spanish Flu, which has affected many people, are generalized and panicked with the virus that is today. For another example, people may be inclined to think that when a loss of life occurs, they will identify with themselves and die. This naturally causes them to panic.

One of the cognitive explanations for this panic attitude is as follows. We all have the knowledge that we will die one day somewhere inside. The mind is seeking an answer to this fact and trying to control this situation. When he encounters a situation he cannot control, he panics. After the panic chain is formed, people hold on to the smallest possibility they can rely on.

Another cause for panic is uncertainty. Uncertainty on the agenda drives people to fear. The American president's failure to take the Corona virus seriously at first, and then the opposite attitude to dominate the situation caused American citizens to panic and not see their way forward. This is the case in America. The term in Turkey, whether entered into the corona did in Turkey, have been performed tests being done, then you will not he come to the curfew, people trying to get into panic guarantee whether this uncertainty. When we look at it cognitively, our brains tend to develop anxiety and protect itself against unknown situations and unpredictable events. For this reason, we panic when we cannot see the way forward.

There are many reasons for the attitude of stocking that are shaped by panic. So what are these reasons, why do we have the urge to stock up? Is it good or bad with this, is it necessary to stock up? Let's see what the researches say on this subject.

As we mentioned above, uncertainty on the agenda drives people to fear. There is uncertainty about the subject all over the world. The uncertainty that people are exposed to while the solution is not found yet, the increase in cases, lack of information, and the inability to predict what will happen puts us in a state of panic. This creates an impulse for people to control the situation and consequently they acquire food, cleanliness, and even means of defense.

Foreign sources call it this. To be clear, when people are under stress, their ability to reason is curtailed. When the ability to reason at the cognitive level is restricted, people begin to copy what they see and take them as a guide. While individuals cannot predict what they should do in this uncertainty with their desire to take control, they constantly see photos of empty shelves on social media, etc.

When we think we do not know about something, we display the behavior of copying. In the past, we could see this behavior in our ancestors, we carry their instincts. When you saw a snake in the forest, when those next to you moved away from that snake, you automatically copied the same movement and thus survived. Now, this instinct can actually make us act irrationally on this agenda sometimes.

We see that we have an evolutionary instinct of disgust. This state of disgust protected us from threats and allowed us to survive in the past. Nowadays, the corona virus, the infection reveals our feeling of disgust and allows us to get the tools to relieve this situation more than they should. Naturally, these are tools to remove "disgusting things" such as disinfectants, cologne, toilet paper and so on.
