OGOYE PATH OF LIFE
Ogoye's family were very poor.They lived on a very tiny piece of land on the edge of a village far away from town.They grew just enough food to eat,Seven children and Ogoye's grandmother.Ogoye was also called Destiny,But was nicknamed O.G by some of her intimate friends.Ogoye dropped out of school when she was about to write Junior Waec examination because her parents could not afford it. She spent most of her day sitting under father's old mango tree with her hands crossed round her legs and her chin on her knees .She always had nothing to do except to look after her father's goat .Somethimes,when she sits under the old tree,she tries to imagine wonderful things she could do and and exciting places she could visit one day.
One on paricular day ,Ogoye was looking after her goats as usual.She was lost in thoughts and did not notice an old car slowly passed by.She looked ip only when she heard the noise of its engine as it stopped. A woman with a generous face waved her hands and shouted , " What is the quickest way to town,please", Ogoye jumped up,put her hands above her eyes,peered through the bright sun at the car.
"I'm very sorry have never been there," Ogoye replied , I Have often seen some cars,buses ,lorries and other vehicles going down that road over there," and she pointed towards the road that ran beside the river.The woman had pity on her because has Ogoye continued talking,tears was rolling down her eyes, "What is your name",she asked ."Ogoye" she replied ,The woman replied back O-GO-YI, she tried to pronounce her name,but couldn't. "Do you have anither name i can be able to call you "the woman asked. "Yes ma,You can call me Destiny", Ogoye replied
"Wow Destiny,thats a lovely name,thanks for your kindness,the woman replied.
The woman knew Destiny parents would be very poor because of the clothes Destiny was wearing,Her hair was Dirty and she was'nt even wearing slippers. She promised her that she was going to pay for her Junior WAEC fee but that would be possible if she could come and stay with her at her place.Destiny was very happy but her happiness was cut short when she thought of her parents allowing her to stay with a stranger.She told the woman if she could inform her parents first,Yes,thats a good idea,Destiny,The woman replied.
Ogoye told her father about what happened in the afternoon with the woman. She was very shocked about her Father response about that.Ogoye's joy knew no bounds as her father accepted her departure with the woman despite the fact that she was his only daughter.The next day the woman came with her car and addressed herself to Ogoye parents.After 2 hours of discussion and merriments,She finally went to stay with the woman.Ogoye's mind was now at rest at first because she was going go stay with someone she never knew, Even her husband,children and even her occupation. "But well since my Junior WAEC is being sponsored by her,there is no problem," she thought to herself.
Finally,They were already at home.Ogoye couldn't believe her eyes because she never knew the woman was so rich to the extent that she had even,more cars in her compound.Ogoye never knew she was moving,to the dog cage because she was walking backwards trying to gaze at her new house.Little did she know,that this woman was into runs,She introduced herself as Miss Ruth, She needed someone to oversee her house,anytime she is called upon by her fellow friends to business.
Ogoye wrote her exams as she was promised by Miss Ruth. She was loved by Miss Ruth and always had anything she wanted ,even her parents .Sometimes even when Miss Ruth friends come to the house to chill out , They try to convince Miss Ruth to allow Ogoye to become like them, but She always resisted because she loved Ogoye and never wanted any harm to befall her.
One fateful day,Ogoye had a bad dream and told Miss Ruth because it eas a dream concerning her that she should not go out that night,All because Ogoye had a dream that she had an accident on her way to the club. Miss lovingly tapped Ogoye at her back and told her that it was only a dream
"Many bad dreams i've dreamt about,but they don't come to pass because i pray feverently ", Miss Ruth laughed .Ogoye was serious about it and told her it was'nt a joke because she know what dreams meant.
"I remeber when i dreamt of my being very ill,it happened the next day,but thank God for his intervention ",she said .Miss Ruth told her not to worry because everything would be fine.
At last,Miss Ruth went for the party by 9:00pm, Immediately,she left,Ogoye went to her room,said a short prayer for her and slept off with her buttocks facing the ceiling and without switching off the lights . Ogoye woked up the next morning ,trying to know what the time was ,She opened the room curtain to see how bright the day was. She heard a loud bangon the gate which made her to jump quickly out of her bed and as if it was a theif, She opened the gate and as she did,one of Miss Ruth friend just stood there as tears rolled down her eyes as she broke the news to Ogoye about Miss Ruth's death.
Ogoye fainted as she was rushed to the hospital, she regained concsiousnes after some hours of treatment .Ogoye couldn't think straight,many thoughts ran accross her mind ,how she wished Miss Ruth never went to the club and most importantly how she had been her heloer from the first day she met her .
Miss Ruth friends tried to console Ogoye and promised her that she would be able to take care of her and her family .Miss Ruth was buried in the village after three weeks of her death.Miss Ruth never had any husband or children to take over her properties and So her friends had to come to stay with Ogoye at her place just to oversee what was going on at her place and Ogoye's well being.Sorrows and pains filled Ogoye's parents and siblings mind when they heard the painful news about Miss Ruth.
Ogoye was informed that Miss Ruth had a lawyer and also have written a will even before she died. Her lawyer then told Ogoye and Miss Ruth friends to be around by next weekend to announce the will of the deceased.
Ogoye was not even ready to listen to any will,because she was not herself for the past few weeks of Miss Ruth Death.
The Lawyer known as Mr. Akintunde was very pleased when he came and saw the turn out of everyone in the house even Ogoye's oarent were present .It was the announced that Fifty percent of Miss Ruth bank account should be given to her friends including some of Landed properties at Lagos, And to Ogoye and her family ,the rest should be given to them .Having said that, the lawyer left with smiles on his face .Ogoye and her family couldn't believe their eyes and ears because they haven't thought of getting as much as that from Miss Ruth .Miss Ruth friends congratulated them and left because from that moment ,the house have been given to the family of Ogoye.
Ogoye gave Miss Ruth a befitting burial and gave an inscription on her grave which she stated ' Leaving me so soon,but my heart will forever not forget you'.
