According to Merriam Webster, smart means having or showing high degree of mental ability.
Do you have that? Do we have that? Do we really need that to be called smart?
Of course not! Because what i'm talking about is the acronym of SMART. We don't really need to show a high degree of mental ability, what we have to do is to just be SMART on setting our goals.
What is SMART?
S - Specific
M - Measurable
A - Attainable
R - Realistic
T - Time bound
I think this SMART criteria is already familiar with the most of you. So just treat this article as a reminder that we should set goals like this.
Let's get into it one by one, shall we?
SPECIFIC
Specific, as defined by Oxford Languages means clearly defined or identified. It's synonyms are particular, specified, fixed, certain, set, determined, distinct and so much more.
We have to be clear on setting our goals.
For instance, we don't just say we want to earn some cryptocurrency, we say we want to earn bitcoin cash. We don't just say we'll review our lessons, we say we'll review our Math lessons.
We don't just say we'll do this something, we have to say what is that something. That's how we become specific in making our goals.
MEASURABLE
Measurable means quantifiable or being able to be measured.
In this part, we have to set goals precisely. We can give an exact date, an exact time, a deadline, how much, how many, and anything that can be measured.
We don't just say we'll write many articles, we say the exact number of how many articles that we will published in that certain period of time.
An example of this is my monthly goal this March to write at least 20 articles for the whole month. (end of the month is near and i'm still far from that goal lol)
Anyway, that's how we make a measurable goal.
ATTAINABLE
Our goals should be attainable. In other words, it should be achievable, possible, obtainable, reachable, and a lot more synonyms for this one.
We have our dreams wherein we set it using the sky as a limit. And there's nothing wrong with that. But in making our goals, we have to consider if it's possible. For example, I have set a goal to reach $150 this month on my bitcoin.com wallet because I know that I can make that possible. I didn't say that at the end of this month i'll have my 1BCH because I know that I can't attain it that easily.
We have to make sure that the goals that we are making is a goal that can be made possible. There's no problem in dreaming high, in aiming for the higher, but we have to make sure that it is still reachable.
REALISTIC
Realistic means a practical idea of what can be achieved or expected. It is quite similar with attainable for we have to consider if the goal that we set is achievable.
Realistic goal can start with us, having an objective then we'll try to focus on it. For instance, I want to lose weight. Well, that's the general goal so to make it specific and realistic, I can say that my goal is to work out at least 3 times a day. In that way, my goal become specific and realistic for we all know that just because I said that I want to lose weight, i'll lose it overnight. No, it doesn't work like that.
Earning here can be an example too. We can say that we want to save or earn 1BCH but it won't happen overnight. What we can say is that we can set a goal to earn 1BCH through this platform in a realistic certain period of time.
TIME BOUND
Time bound is a task that is measured or restricted by time. It is a goal that is time-based. It has a due date or a deadline. It has a certain period where we can accomplished our given task.
It can be a period of one hour, one day, one week, one month, one year, and so on and so forth. The things is that, our goal have a time period wherein the goal we made should be accomplished before or during the time that we set for it.
We can be smart in making or setting our goals that are particular, precise, possible, practical and can be achievable on a given period of time.
I know that you already know about this one but may you be reminded and I am hoping that this article can be quite helpful to you as you make your goals.
As I end this article, i'll leave an own goal of mine that was made based on a SMART criteria.
"I will have one bitcoin cash in my bitcoin.com wallet before this year ends."
