Nam Heong Nyonya Pork Pongteh rice
Today I visit this restaurant called Nam Heong to have my lunch, it is a restaurant known for serving nostalgic tastes of Ipoh’s heritage dishes. This restaurant is located on level 8 inside Pavillion Elite.
Currently they are promoting some dishes from Peranakan cuisine, a cuisine that combines Chinese, Malay, Javanese, South Indian, and other influences.
After looking at it, I order the Nyonya Pork Pongteh rice which cost RM24.30 after including 11% Service tax.
Pork Pongteh is a stew of pork cooked with tauchu or salted fermented soybeans and gula melaka. It is usually saltish-sweet and can be substituted as a soup dish in Peranakan cuisine.
When the pork pongteh is served, it comes with a plate of blue colour rice that get its colour from the blue butterfly pea flower, On the rice is one fried egg while the side of the rice is some cucur, a type of fritter and a small plate of sambal.
