In conjunction with the 10th World Cup Men's Hockey Championship held in Kuala Lumpur from 24 February to 9 March 2002, Bank Negara Malaysia has issued 3 types of commemorative coins. These three types of commemorative coins are legal tender in Malaysia; RM100 Gold Proof, RM10 Silver Proof, and Nordic Gold RM1.
The 10th World Cup Men's Hockey World Championship commemorative coin was minted by The Royal Mint of Malaysia, Shah Alam, and sold on 29 January 2002. It was sold at major branches of 5 commercial banks namely Affin Bank Berhad, Bumiputra-Commerce Bank Berhad, Maybank Berhad, Public Bank Limited, and Southern Bank Limited. The commemorative coins can also be purchased from Bank Negara Malaysia's headquarters, Jalan Dato Onn and at Bank Negara branches throughout Malaysia and The Royal Mint of Malaysia, Shah Alam.
All Coin Designs are design similarities, featuring part of the world map, the action of two hockey players, and the Kuala Lumpur landmark comprising the Petronas Twin Towers and the Kuala Lumpur Tower as a backdrop. The word "KEJOHANAN HOKI LELAKI PIALA DUNIA KE-10" and "25 FEB-9 MAC KUALA LUMPUR" surround the main motif.
While the back design features the official logo of the 2002 World Cup Men's Hockey Championship, the face value of the coin, and the word "BANK NEGARA MALAYSIA" at the top.
