The 50-cent coin issued by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM). The coins were introduced into circulation on September 4, 1989, with the Malaysian tradition design/theme features.

 

At the back is a denomination of 50 SEN at the bottom with the national flower, the Flower, at the center of the coin. The words "NATIONAL BANK OF MALAYSIA" are written throughout the upper echelon of the year of the coinage between the denominations.

On the front is a carving of the Wau, the main design.

 

Wau is a popular leisure game during the windy season especially among the people of the east coast of peninsular Malaysia. It takes skill, agility, and experience to make and fly it. Wau is also sometimes used as a home decorating tool in Malaysia.
