The 20 cent coin issued by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) was introduced into circulation on September 4, 1989, with the Malaysian tradition design as the main theme features.
At the back is a denomination of 20 SENs at the bottom with the national flower, the Flower, in the upper middle of the coin. The words "NATIONAL BANK OF MALAYSIA" are written throughout the upper echelon of the year of the coinage between the denominations.
At the front of the coin show a Tepak Sireh. A Tepak Sireh is a traditional Malay metal container used for storing the leaves and as home decorations. It is commonly used in certain rituals and customs to a welcome guest among Malays.
