Obesity- the primary cause of co-morbidities

It's 22nd of July ,I ,the @girlnextdoor coming up with another topic, Obesity; which has become a leading concern in developed as well as in many developing countries..Be with me, so that I can apprise you of these illness ,which leads you to some irreversible co-morbid conditions, if not treated early.

More or less,we all know,obesity is the condition of having excess body fat .It occurs when there is imbalance between the amount of calories consumed in diet and the amount of energy expended through physical exercise and bodily functions. Sedentary life style,live on junk foods,lack of physical exercise and of course lack of self care ,all leads to obesity.There are some hormonal causes also e.g Hypothyroidism,Cushing syndrome and drugs e.g. antipsychotic, corticosteroids, contraceptive pills cause weight gain .

We can assess obesity by using BMI(Body mass index) which helps us to quantify the risks of complication.

BMI=Weight in kg/ (Height in meter)^2

According to BMI chart,Obesity is when one's BMI is 30 or more..

Now,let's talk about the co-morbidities arising due to obesity.When lipid deposits in arterial wall, forming atheroma, it gives rise cardiovascular complication e.g. hypertension.Atherosclerotic plaque occlude coronary arteries,prevents blood flow to the supplying areas leads to ischaemia and eventually complete occlusion leads to MI(myocardial infarction).When cerebral arteries are occluded, it causes stroke.

Obesity causes insulin resistance and thus occurs Diabetes mellitus..Excess weight may lead you to osteoarthritis.Some other problems e.g fatty liver,sleep apnoea may also occur.

Excess body weight leads to damage of weight bearing bones

Person who are obese sometimes have lower self esteem.

We can avoid all those complications by only controlling our weight, by maximize physical activity and following a healthy balanced diet .If obesity is due to any disease condition, physicians advice must be followed..

Thi is a good article about being physically healthy as well as an awareness to people who loves to do things that can lead to obesity. This topic is such a trendy one for me because comorbidities is such a big effect in getting covid-19 right now. Once you have comorbidities such as hypertension and diabetes mellitus you are at high risk in being affected by this pandemic disease.

This is truthfully right. There are a lot of cases here in our hospital that has signs and symptoms of covid-19 that has a comorbidities, not just obesity but many other more. So we should always take good care of our own health, not just physically but also mentally.
