¿QUÉ ES EL VIH?

El Virus de Inmunideficiencia Humana (VIH), es un virus encargado de atacar a las células de nuestro sistema inmunitario, que son las encargadas de protegernos ante diversas enfermedades y microorganismos; de esa manera, el virus se encarga de disminuir la capacidad que tiene nuestro organismo para defenderse ante cualquier patología.

¿QUÉ ES EL SIDA?

El Síndrome de Inmunideficiencia Adquirida (SIDA), se define como el conjunto de signos y síntomas que aparecen ante alguna afectación de nuestro sistema inmunitario, es decir, son las manifestaciones de nuestro cuerpo una vez que nuestro sistema de defensa ya no puede combatir alguna infección.

¿VIH Y SIDA, ES LO MISMO?

NO, no es lo mismo.

El VIH es el virus que causa el SIDA, pero, tener VIH no significa tener SIDA.

La persona que tiene VIH puede prevenir el SIDA si usa correctamente el tratamiento antirretroviral y puede llevar una vida totalmente normal.

El SIDA se produce cuando ya el virus afectó tanto a nuestro organismo que las células de nuestro sistema inmune no puede combatir la infección, y, por lo tanto, empiezan a aparecer los signos y síntomas de dicha enfermedad. Es decir, tener VIH no significa tener SIDA, pero, por el contrario, tener SIDA sí es sinónimo de tener VIH.

¿CUÁL ES LA NUEVA VARIANTE DEL VIH?

Se trata de la variante VB (subtipo virulento B), éste tiene una carga viral mucho mayor, afecta con mayor rapidez al sistema inmunitario, y, por lo tanto, tiene mayor capacidad de producir SIDA; además, es más transmisible.

¿CÓMO SE TRANSMITE EL VIH?

La gran mayoría de las personas piensan que el simple contacto físico con una persona infectada por VIH o que tenga SIDA, ya es suficiente para contagiarse; por esta razón, tienden a discriminar a las personas que sufren dicha patología.

No es así, las únicas maneras en la que una persona puede infectarse son, principalmente:

- Contacto sexual sin preservativo con una persona infectada.

- Contacto de una puerta de entrada (herida) con sangre infectada.

- Uso de jeringas contaminadas.

- Transfusión sanguínea con sangre contaminada.

- A través del canal de parto.

Existen otras, pero, la probabilidad de contagio es muy mínima.

NO DISCRIMINES A ALGUIEN CON VIH/SIDA

Las personas con esta patología, merecen inclusión; ya es mucho padecer de esa enfermedad como para soportar señalamientos, malos tratos, desprecios, etc., eso altera más su estado de ánimo y pueden caer en depresión, tomando una mala decisión con respecto a su vida y recurrir al suicidio.

Las personas con VIH que toman correctamente su tratamiento antirretroviral, no pueden transmitir la enfermedad.

WHAT IS HIV?

The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a virus responsible for attacking the cells of our immune system, which are responsible for protecting us against various diseases and microorganisms; thus, the virus is responsible for reducing the ability of our body to defend itself against any pathology.

WHAT IS AIDS?

Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is defined as the set of signs and symptoms that appear before any affectation of our immune system, that is to say, they are the manifestations of our body once our defense system can no longer fight any infection.

ARE HIV AND AIDS THE SAME THING?

NO, they are not the same.

HIV is the virus that causes AIDS, but having HIV does not mean having AIDS.

A person with HIV can prevent AIDS if he/she uses antiretroviral treatment correctly and can lead a completely normal life.

AIDS occurs when the virus has already affected our body so much that the cells of our immune system cannot fight the infection and, therefore, the signs and symptoms of the disease begin to appear. In other words, having HIV does not mean having AIDS, but, on the contrary, having AIDS is synonymous with having HIV.

WHAT IS THE NEW HIV VARIANT?

It is the VB variant (virulent subtype B), which has a much higher viral load, affects the immune system more rapidly and, therefore, has a greater capacity to produce AIDS; it is also more transmissible.

HOW IS HIV TRANSMITTED?

The vast majority of people think that the simple physical contact with a person infected with HIV or who has AIDS is enough to become infected; for this reason, they tend to discriminate against people who suffer from this pathology.

Not so, the only ways in which a person can become infected are, mainly:

- Sexual contact without a condom with an infected person.

- Contact of an entrance door (wound) with infected blood.

- Use of contaminated syringes.

- Blood transfusion with contaminated blood.

- Through the birth canal.

There are others, but the probability of infection is very minimal.

DON'T DISCRIMINATE AGAINST SOMEONE WITH HIV/AIDS

People with this pathology deserve to be included; it is too much to suffer from this disease to put up with being singled out, mistreated, scorned, etc., this alters their mood even more and they can fall into depression, making a bad decision regarding their life and resort to suicide.

People with HIV who take their antiretroviral treatment correctly cannot transmit the disease.
