¿QUÉ SON LAS ENFERMEDADES RARAS?

Son patologías o trastornos que afectan a una pequeña parte de la población y que, por lo general, tienen un componente genético. Son también conocidas como enfermedades huérfanas.

Tienen una baja prevalencia en la población, se consideran raras cuando afecta a menos de 5 de cada 10.000 habitantes.

¿POR QUÉ SE CELEBRA EL ÚLTIMO DÍA DE FEBRERO DE CADA AÑO?

Desde el año 2008 se celebra ésta efemérides, con la intención de crear conciencia, ayudar y apoyar a las personas con alguna condición "rara".

Sabiendo que el mes de febrero tiene algo particular, y es que, dependiendo de si es año bisiesto o no, el mes cuenta con 28 ó 29 días, por lo tanto, al ser un mes "raro", se tomo eso en consideración para asociarlo con la enfermedad.

¿CUÁLES SON ALGUNAS DE LAS ENFERMEDADES RARAS?

Existen muchas enfermedades raras, algunas de ellas ni siquiera conocidas por los investigadores, quizá muchas ni siquiera han aparecido, pero, dentro de las que se conocen, tenemos:

- Síndrome de Marfan.

- Enfermedad de Kawasaki.

- Síndrome de Turner.

- Síndrome de Arnold Chiari.

- Síndrome de Goodpasture.

- Elefantiasis.

- Esclerosis Lateral Amiotrófica.

- Progeria.

- Hemofilia.

- Espina bífida.

WHAT ARE RARE DISEASES?

Rare diseases are pathologies or disorders that affect a small part of the population and usually have a genetic component. They are also known as orphan diseases.

They have a low prevalence in the population; they are considered rare when they affect less than 5 out of every 10,000 inhabitants.

WHY IS IT CELEBRATED ON THE LAST DAY OF FEBRUARY EACH YEAR?

Since 2008 this ephemeris has been celebrated with the intention of raising awareness, helping and supporting people with a "rare" condition.

Knowing that the month of February has something particular, and that is that, depending on whether it is a leap year or not, the month has 28 or 29 days, therefore, being a "rare" month, this was taken into consideration to associate it with the disease.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE RARE DISEASES?

There are many rare diseases, some of them are not even known by researchers, perhaps many have not even appeared, but, within those that are known, we have:

- Marfan Syndrome.

- Kawasaki disease.

- Turner's syndrome.

- Arnold Chiari syndrome.

- Goodpasture syndrome.

- Elephantiasis.

- Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

- Progeria.

- Hemophilia.

- Spina bifida.
