My friend is a witch! Part 1 of FRIENDS

23rd of June 2021

I kid you not! I am writing and writing almost daily, but none of my articles seem right or ripe to be published, yet this one is urging to be told! Why, you ask? In my life I let myself be led by my inner wisdom and I don’t often do things that don’t FEEL right to me. A rushed and forced article will never have as much of an impact as the one which just can't wait to be told. Saying that, I am in my kitchen, cooking my dinner and the bits and pieces of this article are coming through left right and centre, so I had to grab my laptop and start writing, while sitting in a very awkward position on my kitchen stool and trying not to burn my dinner!

Apart from the above fact, which in itself is enough of a reason to write this article, there is more to it. Yesterday or maybe a day before, my new friend @Olasquare suggested I could maybe write a series of articles about my friends. It was in THIS   article that he quoted ‘Show me your friends and I will tell you who you are’, to which I replied that he wouldn’t know what to make of me if he met my friends, as they are all so very different.

To be honest, as much as I like the idea of writing about my friends, I also value their privacy greatly and didn’t feel like I risking their trust by writing an honest article about them and publishing it on the public platform. But guess what, as I was chatting with my friend Crystal this afternoon and mentioned this exchange, she says she would love it if I write an article about her and even give out her details!

Why do I have a witchy friend?

Well, quite frankly, because deep down I am a bit of a witch myself of course, which proves Olawale’s point to some extent. The only thing I don’t like about being a witch is the negative connotation that is applied to this word, which also caused me to keep this side of myself well hidden from most people, men especially.

‘I have no doubt that I was burnt at the stake many times before’ is one of my running jokes. Is it though? I keep it lightly as a joke, so as to not offend most people, especially those who follow their religions to the letter and don’t believe in reincarnation. My personal truth however is that I am a very old soul, much older than one lifetime would allow me to be. Take from it what resonates and don’t worry about the rest.

What does the word 'witch' mean? Would I be very wrong if I said what springs to mind when I say the word ‘witch’ is something along these 2 pictures?

Art from Witches Wisdom, illustrated by Richard Crookes

Most people think of an old woman in a hat, with a black cat lurking around her in the shadows (or a crow as depicted above), brewing a potion in her big cauldron, ready to cast a spell on you if you look at her the wrong way. She knows all the magical herbs, practices dark magic and can make the men you love fall in love with you too or she can curse you with bad luck forever. Is this what comes to mind when you think of a witch? Well, that’s exactly why I don’t call myself one. Stereotypes should be dead in the age of information that we’re entering into, but they’re still very much alive in most of us. Hopefully this will change.

Who is a witch? Are you one too?

Modern witch is just another word for a wise woman.

  • A woman who is in tune with her body and with nature.

  • A woman who trusts her gut and follows it on her path.

  • A woman who can read between the lines and pick up on tiny clues most people don’t notice.

  • A woman who spent most of her life in introspection. She knows so much about getting over her own demons that she can see yours too. She can also help you deal with them the way she did.

  • A woman who understands how the Universe works and uses it to her advantage.

  • A woman whose manifestation skills are so great that you could take them for magic.

  • A woman whose strength and poise are so strong that you can feel them when you’re close, yet you can not even put it into words.

  • A woman who is naturally a great psychologist - you feel drawn to open up to her, tell her your story, your problems, your worries, because you instinctively trust that she can help you.

  • A woman who supports other women on their path into empowerment.

  • A woman whose light shines so brightly that it gives you permission to shine too.

There are many types of ‘witches’ in our day and age and they specialise in many different areas of life. Some are great at leveraging the power of crystals. Green witches are great with herbs and know of their countless healing powers. Some are great with numbers and use their specific vibrations in their work. Some witches work as nurses or doctors with a little twist. Some can read your palms or the leaves from the tea/coffee you just finished. Some use divination tools like tarot and oracle cards. Some work as life coaches or mentors of any kind. Some are adept at reading the stars and how their intricate alignments affect our life. Do you think pandemic was of any surprise to the witches? Nahh… some were preparing for it for 2 or more years in advance. Look up Mercury, Saturn and Pluto conjunction in Capricorn on the 12/01/2020 if you’re curious.

Every single witch (and not only) does come alive and has much more energy at the full moon for sure (next one is 16 hours from now). I had to take a break from writing and go work on my allotment for a while, to spend some of that energy coursing through my veins or else I would combust!

Full moon capture from 2015 - my newest phone still takes no better pics of the moon than this!

Which type of a witch is my friend Crystal? It is a rare case that the witch will wield only one of those I mentioned above. Currently she’s using her tarot and oracle decks as well as runes with incredible insight. Before her (not first) awakening in 2018, she spent years in HR departments of the corporate world, lending her special insight to improve productivity in various companies. In her youth she travelled to places, which I didn’t even know existed, tried the things you probably don’t wanna hear about and she could tell you the stories which you’ve only ever seen in movies. She left her artistic, gypsy life behind in order to get married and start a family. The man she has chosen to do it with was not exactly a grown up and responsible type, but he is a father of her 2 amazing kiddos, so let’s give him some credit for it.

Needless to say she is no longer married and her current partner is a really lovely guy. He embraced Crystal’s newly re-discovered witchy identity without any hesitation and last year they renovated an old caravan. Apart from being great for family holidays in current circumstances it is also a lovely place where she sees her clients for some spiritual advice and direction.

Crystal's spiritual corner in her newly refurbished vintage caravan.

Why would you want to visit a tarot reader?

Some people do it for fun at the parties where she’s invited. Some people come in pairs as one friend makes it a gift for another friend’s birthday. Others want to experience a mystical moment or see what the fuss is all about. Most are at the crossroads and need some guidance or validation. Cards are just some of the tools Crystal is using in her work. When you look at it very closely, there is not much magic to it. There is a law of attraction which always dictates which cards show up and Crystal is very skilled at reading the meaning behind these cards. Add her knowledge of people on top of it and it’s more like visiting a life coach with an extra 7th sense.

Whatever your reason, she can make it as fun or as serious as you want it to be.

Fancy checking her out? She has her page on fb, as well as a website

Because you just never know when you need a bit of extra insight from a modern witch.

Happy strawberry full moon to all!

Till the next time  💙

Thank you for reading. This should be a start of my new series dedicated to my friends. I will add more articles as and my other friends give me their permission to do so. There is not a boring one amongst them, I can assure you of this!

Then there is witch in all of us :D

This reminded me how I used to read about wicca. There used to a forum that I was a member of and one of the forums was all about wiccan. I remember I even printed some of the articles there but I guess I lost interest or my focus was on other things that I did not pursue it any further.

These things come and go, sometimes we pick them up as we need them, then move on to something else. There is a witch in all of us for sure 💙

Although it's not a "female only Power", the fact is men are a lot more "blocked", with very good exceptions of course. For example, in my 2 degree Reiki course there was 1 man among 20 women. The word Witch is loosing its negative influence to become once more a powerful word. More than that, a powerful feeling, many ppl don't realize, but they do have it within, things as "simple" as a blessed rose garden 🥰🥰

Write and don't burn the strawberry of a full moon. Your dear witch is great. I like the witch theme. In my life, I had 3 witches who read me tarot's cards and said they saw death. I'm still alive. Even one of them put out the fire. But that meant change in my life. Great story Monica congratulations 👍

Yes, death card in tarot often means change/end of a cycle. It's not a bad card at all :)

I like this! I will surely love to meet your friend and visit her in the caravan.

My husband has a friend who is an expert in Jungian psychology. And he knows a lot about Archetypes, Tarot, and Astrology. He even gives some courses on this. My husband is, among other things, a writer. Last year, he took his friend's Jungian Archetypes course. And it was so interesting. He did it with the idea of being able to use it as a tool to write characters. Now he plans to do the Tarot course.

And even though I don't consider myself a witch. I've always liked having some witchy friends around.

Oh wow! So you're going to have a witch husband. How awesome is this? I must learn more about archetypes - a few people already recommended me some materials, thank you for a reminder 💙

This is super cool and I am glad she is cool with the idea of sharing her kind of person. No doubt, a lot of people have different ideas about who a witch is and sometimes when we want to call someone a genius, we call them a witch. I love your definitions and reorientation this post portrays.

This is quite detailed and deep and I am more excited you decided to do this. Yaaaaaay! I can't wait to know more and read more about your friends. There is another type of witch you didn't mention and those are those gifted with words like you are 🤣🤣😂 it is safe from now on to call you my favourite witch. 🤣🤣😂😂😂😂

Hahaha! Go ahead, you would not be the first person who calls me their favourite witch. In fact the first person who ever called me a witch was my father 😅 He had no idea how I could stand up to him, when he got home drunk and I think from some point on he was scared to get into my room, as if it was protected by some dark forces 😅 I found it rather entertaining!

And yes, there are SO many more types of witches that I most likely didn't mention. I already see some interesting replies, so maybe at some point I will gather them and edit the article to reflect it.

I have never called any forces to protect me, but I do feel protected if that makes any sense.

Amazing hugs! Proper energy exchange hugs. I have been told many times that I give great hugs 🤗

Very interesting, I used to read tarot cards and my first wife was in a coven. However throughout history witch has been used by the masses to label women that had higher intelligence than others or possessed powers that weren't understood.

Wow! I would not guess you knew how read tarot in million years, but after I wrote the article I wondered if I should specify the gender so strongly, because there are male witches too 💙

An interesting article, Fantagira. Well, I don't think I've met a witch before, but I've had readings done by a clairvoyant with her crystal ball, and also a gypsy. Hehehe.

I am happy that you found it interesting Emily. I bet you're met a few, who don't necessary label themselves as such. I actually remember being scared of gypsies when I was younger!

Do I remember well about the man with a parrot who also read palms?
