FOODlog #1: Banana Leaf Rice & Curry Had a real treat for dinner today. My brother took us out for dinner at Banana Bros in Times Square. The place looks so quiet as the town is yet to fully be packed with people but boy was the food delicious. We had some banana leaf rice which is a typical Southern Indian cuisine that I absolutely love especially when the curry is done well like the one here at Banana Bros. The side refillable dishes were snake gourd pacora, some cucumber…

FOODlog #2: Braised Pork Belly Stew Wife cooked a really nice lunch today. She cooked some Chinese 5 spice Braised Pork. Its a dish that uses pork belly, 5 spice, soy sauce, dark soy sauce, a whole bulb of garlic, and some hard boiled eggs. It's a simple dish but takes an hour or 2 depending on how thick the cut of pork belly is. For ours it's less than half an inch so it'll take about 45 minutes to an hour. If you can marinate the pork overnight would be the best but if you…
FOODlog #3: The Diane This appeared on my Facebook memories. This was from 2 years ago when I was still operating my good truck. How much things can change in 2 years. Super grateful for what I have now. Anyways, this is a burger that I created called 'The Diane'. Tha name comes from the dish called 'Steak Diane' which is a beef steak that comes with a mushroom sauce. It's a beef cheeseburger that's topped with creamy mushrooms. I use fresh oyster mushrooms which I tear by…
FOODlog #4: Hong Kong Chicken Congee Super simple but hearty and delicious lunch today. I made some chicken porridge for the family today. Sometimes when we will want to have porridge for a meal because it really makes your body feel very wholesome and a simple reason is when you're eating congee, you're not eating other "unhealthy" food. Congee is good for the body and easy to digest. I heard it lubricates the intestine and helps with digestion and strengthening the body.…
FOODlog #5: Korean Barbecue Buffet Went for a Korean buffet yesterday with a friend of mine. Treated him this buffet which was quite affordable and well worth the meal and the price. It was only RM25 ($7) for the buffet with free refills on side dishes, grilled pork and chicken, steamed egg, and also Kimchi soup. Here are some of the pics of what we had. We got some grilled pork belly and grilled boneless chicken thigh. I took some sweet Korean barbecue sauce that was sweet…
FOODlog #6: Malaysian Western Breakfast Mum cooked breakfast today. Haven't had this in awhile so it was a real treat. She made spam (luncheon meat) and eggs. It's really common here in Malaysia as we don't have easy access to smoke bacon. Luncheon meat is a more preferred choice of meat to replace the "bacon" in a bacon & eggs breakfast. The luncheon meat is pan fried in a pan to cook it and get the edges crispy. The eggs are simply fried with some oil sunny side up and…
FOODlog #7: Malaysian Beef Noodles Had dinner with my brother and his family tonight. We went to a famous beef noodle restaurant called Soong Kee. Their original branch is in KL's little China and has been serving their beef noodles for over 60 years. Now they've opened a 2nd branch nearby where I live which is such awesome news! The beef mince paste is so tender and smooth and so delicious when you mix it with their egg noodles. The noodles were springy and had such a nice…

FOODlog #9: Simple Homecook Meal My area is having a water cut for the next 3-4 days so my mum cooked some soup the previous night for our meals today. She cooked some lotus root and groundnuts soup with pork and red dates. I don't really liked the dried red dates in the soup as it gives it sweetness. I prefer it being fully savoury which you can omit the red dates and just cook it with lotus root and groundnuts. For the pork you can use your favorite cut of meat but pork…

FOODlog #14: Malaysian 'Bak Kut Teh' Mum bought some delicious Bak Kut Teh today. Its a Malaysian classic that's a favorite among the Chinese here. Its a savory pork bone broth soup packed with strong flavors from many Chinese herbs and spices. This was done expertly and the broth was delicious. Some places have the ratio a bit off and the soup is either not flavorful enough or if too much herbs and spices go in to make it more flavorful, it turns out bitter instead. So…
