It would be a terrible atmosphere on the ground: Imran Khan on why India-Pakistan series isn't possible
While cricket is slowly returning back to action, during the lockdown, former Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Akhtar had suggested a bilateral series between India and Pakistan - where the funds would be distributed between the two countries - which have been battling against the coronavirus pandemic - like the rest of the globe. Given the political tensions between the two countries, India and Pakistan now only meet in the tournaments organised by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
While several attempts have been made by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to resume cricket with India, the Indian government has made its stand clear - which is to not involve in any cricket-related activities with Pakistan till the time cross border terrorism exists.
While the Indian government has been categorical that Pakistan must stop cross border terrorism to attain normalcy between the two countries, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan chose to ignore the ground realities and said he doesn't see any cricket happening between India and Pakistan due to the Indian government.
“Right now, playing cricket in this atmosphere with this sort of a government in power, I would imagine it would be a terrible atmosphere on the cricket ground," Imran said on the Out Of Exile documentary on Sky Sports as quoted by PakPassion.
Recently, legendary Pakistan cricketer Javed Miandad had slammed Imran and accused him of 'acting like God' ever since he was appointed as the Pakistan Prime Minister.
"I was your captain, you weren't my captain. I'll come to politics and then I'll talk to you. I was the one who led you all the time, but you act like God now. It is almost like you're the only intelligent person in this country, as if no one has gone to Oxford or Cambridge or any other university in Pakistan. Think about the people," said Miandad.
Miandad also claimed that it was he who made Imran the Prime Minister and also openly challenged him by saying that he will soon enter politics.
"You don't care about the country. You came to my home, and went out as a Prime Minister. I challenge you to deny this.
"What's the meaning of being a Pakistani? To live and let live. Help your own. Be intelligent. I've echoed the nation's voice. I know it is difficult for common people to raise their voice, but I'm at a position where I can raise their voice in front of the world," said Miandad.
India and Pakistan last locked horns on the cricket pitch during the ICC World Cup 2019 - where the Men in Blue maintained their unbeaten run against the Men in Green in World Cup history.
