Turned into a Monster-Science or Greed?

"This noble prize award is hereby given to Mr. Cony Herman for his discovery and great contribution in medicine...."

It was a bright day for Mr. Herman as he succeeded on his long experiment and discovery of a certain medicine that will cure a disease that killed tons of children upon its discovery. It was his dream to be put in history and now he already achieved it. After receiving the awards and congratulatory messages, he was invited in different events and a lot of projects were given to him. Mr. Herman worked with different scientist and also people in different fields to continue his desire to cure diseases that has no cure as of the moment. He wants to be the first to discover almost everything. He lives his life for the sake of science.

Indeed, when a man receives such pleasure, he gets hungry for more.

Years passed and Mr. Herman is still known and admired by many. However, he is growing tired with his life. It's like he want to take a good rest now and enjoy the world outside his laboratory. As he talks about retiring, his friend asked to work on this one possible cure for open wounds. He is asked if he could study whether it is possible for small wounds to heal much faster. He agreed as he think this will be his last project. He is partnered with Ms. Walkman, a scientist who is also known for her great contribution for blood-related medicines. As she is smart as he is, he undeniably fell for the beautiful lady. They become closer making it easier to work, he got to experience and learn a lot through Ms. Walkman. They eventually come into good terms and planned to get married soon as they finish the project as it shows notable improvement.

There are circumstances that come when you least expect it. Ms. Walkman got pregnant so they have to halt the project. The expectant father is so thrilled and happy when he heard the news, but the soon to be mom seems to feel otherwise. Despite that, as Mr. Walkman love her more than anyone else in the world, he gave her all the care he got so both her and the baby will be healthy. He didn't come to his lab to avoid getting exposed to any chemicals that may harm his wife and child. They just stayed in their simple house until Ms. Walkman gave birth to a healthy baby girl. Ms. Walkman wants to continue the project right away but Mr. Herman told her to wait for their child to celebrate her birthday. Since the project was halt for 2 years, the samples and data are not that accurate anymore. They have to start over. Ms. Walkman grew frustrated with this but she still wait and gather again what she could. However, because of various diseases being discovered, the project was then stop because no one wants to fund it anymore.

Mr. Herman wants to call it into an end but seeing her beloved wanting to continue it, he promised her to wait a little longer and he'll find sponsors for it. They soon got married, and Wendy, their daughter grew up as a wonderful lady. 20 years have passed and the project is still on halt. Ms. Walkman (or Mrs. Herman), desperate as she is, sought anyone who will fund this project as she truly believe that this will be her time to have that noble price. One man who is a known businessman grew interest with this, but he told Mrs. Herman that it's a huge money and he want something in return. He said he want to own someone-her daughter.

"This noble prize award is hereby given to Mrs. Cindy Walkman Herman for his discovery and great contribution in medicine...."

She never thought she'll succeed in her early 70s but she knew that it was never too late. She received the award and all the congratulatory messages and went on her way home after the grand celebration.

Soon as she reached the door and opened it. A woman in her 30s with a boy maybe 9 years old, welcomed her with anguish.

"Are you happy now? You received that award by sacrificing your own daughter?" Wendy coldly asked her giving a gaze as if killing her.

"I did it for the sake --"

"Of your own happiness. You're never contented to have me and dad. He loves you so much, so do I! How can you treat me as your test subject and give me to that monster!"

Wendy get a gun from her back and point it directly to her mom's face. Three loud bangs were heard from the house and echoed from the whole neighborhood. When Mr. Herman arrived home the 2 women she love so dearly were lying on the floor covered with blood, as his grandson is crying beside his mom. It devastated him so much that he decided to leave the city and settle away from it.

Caleb shows weird behavior after his mom passed away. He don't talk, and would watch gruesome movies all day without flinching. If Mr. Herman will scold him he will become violent. After years of observing him, Mr. Herman decided to run tests on him. He was shocked to see how the DNA of Caleb is so twisted and beyond normal. He spent a whole month getting it tested on town and then when he comes home, he spend all his time on his small lab, trying to figure out about this massive mystery. One morning when he's trying to study the blood of Caleb, he heard knocks on the door. He asked if it is Caleb and what he wants. No answer. He decided to open the door only to see a monster before him. He was attacked by the creature and his claw wounded him badly. He is growing in pain but the old man can't scream. Is this Caleb? He is strong enough to limp his muscles and eventually tore his arm. The monster fled away with Mr. Herman's arm.

One man came approach the house and tried saving Mr. Herman. But it was too late, Mr. Herman is already dead because of too much lost of blood given his old age. The monster fled and no one ever caught it.

The detailed mystery of Caleb's transformation is yet to discover, but as one officer who visited the crime scene, he recovered a journal of Mrs. Herman who mostly worked on the fast healing medicine and tried it to her own daughter that seems to affect her grandson, it is indeed greed that turned the poor child into a frightening monster.

Ahhhhh I missed writing such stories. It's not the strong and I didn't add jaw dropping twists because that's the only plot my braincells could make for now hahah. It's been a long time since I wrote a story hahah.

Well, this is an entry to a competition by @Theblackdoll . I got inspired by ate @Ruffa entry so I ended up writing a backstory too, but I think what I wrote can also be considered as part two as I connected the dots why Mr. Herman is nowhere to be found for one month hehe. Well I enjoyed writing this no matter what haha.
