The Effects of Body Shaming

As I watched the Pinoy Big Brother, one episode of it left an impression on me. It was the story of Alexa Ilacad who is diagnosed to have body dysmorphic order. To those who haven't seen the show let me tell you brief details of her experience. Alexa told Big Brother that she sees herself differently because of his body. Every time she sees her reflection in a mirror, she felt sad because she did not want the person she sees. She also said that one time he did not eat for four days. To add more to her insecurities, someone told her that the reason why she has not yet had her breakthrough is that she's fat. That's why whenever she finished her meal she always check her tummy because she is worried about her appearance.

This kind of thing is mostly overlooked by many or seen as a petty feeling. Truth to be told, the majority of the people once experienced this phase in life where we are bothered and worried about our appearance, especially our body. The world now is influenced by the things we see on social media. Leaving a comment and message is such an easy task to do. However, hard to erase in your mind once you read them. Pictures and videos of people with their gorgeous body made our confidence deflated. Then, we will now tend to hate our appearance and worst our very own existence.

It is so sad that some people shame others even though this world is meant to uplift and unite everyone. Also, the social media platforms with its influencer aim to inspire you not to be hard on yourself. So, it's okay to pursue a certain body goal with your limitations and by knowing what is healthy for you. But if it in the level where it is kinda an obsession and it drains you then it needs to be addressed. Therfore, the thing about Alexa Ilacad must be dealt with properly with care and support. So, everyone can face this visible illness that we thought we didn't have.

Each of us must know that we are unique and wonderful individuals. That it's okay to express what we feel. But not to the extent that we are going to dislike what we have. As they said, we all have different body types and distinct identities. The only way we can do and cliche may it sound is to embrace it. There is nothing more beautiful and sexy than self-love. Do not wait for others to compliment you or do not listen to their toxic words. I know it's hard to ignore but do yourself a favor. You can do it slowly, step by step, or one at a time because throughout that process you will discover more incredible things about yourself. Well, I cannot deny that I do care a lot about how I look because a day cannot pass without me looking five times or more in the mirror. It's like it became a habit but a good one. Because when I am looking at myself, reflections of that day will pop up, what I did for that day or what will I do the next day and it is also my way of giving myself affirmations. To be honest, I do also have bad days where I do not like what I see but it's part of learning and growing— part of life.

Have a blessed and productive Tuesday, everyone! :>

We should uplift and encourage others to love what we have and accept ourselves. Let us not persecute them but instead help them if they want to improve. Kindness and love should rule us instead.

I couldn't believe too that this episode been shown. Somehow one of us has different anxiety facing difficulty into ourselves. Depression has no status its either u are celebrities or even young. I really admire alexa for hiding or setting aside her anxiety. Braver enough💪

Yes, based on my observation of her in the house, she is indeed a brave and powerful woman who knows what she wants. I really just hope that she can overcome her disorder.

We are in modern age in which people are the one who judge who we are specially if those people are celebrities. One wrong move or any bad thing you have in your body, you can receive thousands of hate comments and memes about that person. Maybe it's fun for other but it's a nightmare for the person that involve, it will decrease their self confidence and worst it can lead to more serious matters, that's how powerful social media is and the people using it.

Social media truly influence us from everything. It is like people don't have privacy anymore. Every post or action they will judge you. It scares me how social media platforms transform our world.
