The eternal debate: to drink coffee or tea?
Both coffee and tea have positive effects on long-term health, but we can also overdo it with both beverages.
Why drink coffee?
Coffee is associated with a reduced risk of Parkinson's disease and type 2 diabetes. It has also been shown to reduce the risk of some types of cancer, including skin cancer.
A study of more than 500,000 people worldwide concluded that drinking coffee is associated with a reduced risk of death from a variety of causes. This was also true for people who drank as much as eight cups a day! Just donโt fill your morning cup with sugar and cream as this will completely wipe out the benefits of this hot beverage.
For all coffee lovers here is good news. Research has shown that coffee is good, improves mood, reduces pain, and also acts as an aphrodisiac.
Why is tea good for health?
Tea contains ingredients that have a number of health benefits, including a reduced risk of cancer, cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis and gum disease. These ingredients include antioxidants and polyphenols, compounds that can also help lower blood pressure, reduce the risk of stroke, and improve weight loss.
Moreover, research shows that regular tea consumers have less inflammation, perhaps thanks to a compound called epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG).
Inflammation in the body has been linked to many medical conditions, from arthritis to heart disease. Said EGCG could reduce the risk of plaque formation in the brain associated with Alzheimer's disease.
Which drink is better?
Coffee and tea have their benefits, but tea contains antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antiviral benefits due to its polyphenol and antioxidant content. In addition, different types of teas offer their unique benefits.
Of course, if you are sensitive to caffeine, you may need to avoid both.
Coffee contains more than tea - about 92 milligrams per cup - while tea is around 50 milligrams. Caffeine in any of them can be a problem for those who are sensitive to it, such as shivering, increased anxiety or sleep disorders.
If you are one of those who regularly drink both beverages, even better for you. Research says that people who drink a combination of coffee and tea every day have a lower risk of death than people who drink only coffee.
I would love to hear your opinion in the comment with which morning drink you start the new day with.
