As Ernie Baron once said, Knowledge is Power, nowadays all we need is a proper education and reading so we all are going to be aware to and 'bout the things that's been happening around us or around the world, being aware of such or all things can help us to avoid or prevent such things or illneseses or the likes of it, right? This article of mine here today's kinda related or really related to what's been happening or going on not just here on Boracay but to the entire World itself and hope you will find this one helpful and informative po and please do bear with me po especially to the pic collage i'm going to use and uploaded here. The photos i'm going to use and uploaded here are from Google.
What Is Social Stigma?
It's the reason why i guess the cases are increasing or widely spreading not just here on Boracay but to the whole World, if i must say.
It's the disapproval of or discrimination against a Person based on perceivable social characteristics that serve to distinguish them from other members of a Society.
Commonly related to Culture, Gender, Race, Age, Sexual Orientation, Intelligence and Health.
It's understandable that there's Confusion, Anxiety and Fear among the Public. Unfortunately, these factors are also fueling harmful stereotypes.
It occurs when People negatively associated an infectious disease such as Covid-19 with a specific Population.
Education is one way to fight Stigma. It helps dispel harmful stereotypes.
Social Stigma Factors Associated With Covid-19 are as follows:
* A Disease that's new and for which there are still many unknowns.
* We are often afraid of the unknown.
* It's easy to associate that Fear with others.
People/Groups that experienced Stigma related to Covid-19
* People of Asian Descent.
* People returning from travel.
* Health Care Workers and Emergency Responders.
* People with the disease and their Family and Friends.
* People released from quarantine.
Things that happens to People/Groups that are Stigmatized
* They may be excluded or shunned in social situations.
* They may be denied job and educational opportunities.
* They may be denied access to adequate housing and health care.
* They may be targets of verbal, emotional and physical abuse.
Ways to help reduce Covid-19 Stigma
* Getting the facts about Covid-19 from reputable sources such as CDC or Centers For Disease Control and WHO or World Health Organization. Share that facts with your Family and Friends.
* Speaking up if you hear or see inaccurate statements about Covid-19 and certain People or Groups.
* Reaching out to People who may feel stigmatized. Ask how you can help, listen to them and show that you understand and support them.
* Showing support for Health Care Workers and others who are caring for People with Covid-19. Thank them for their work and share positive messages on social media.
* Showing support for and thanking all who continue their essential jobs to help you and your community such as Police Officers, Bus Drivers, Grocery Store Clerks, Food and Bank Workers and Delivery People.
Remember, everyone is in this together. The Covid-19 Pandemic will be over sooner if Fears and Rumors are replaced by Facts, Proper Action and a show of Support for one another.
We all are going to heal or be heal as one, just like what the song says, just do and follow the protocols and safety reminders from the Government. Stay Safe. Wash Hands. Social Distancing. Wear Face Mask and Face Shield.
Good evening to all once again, have a good evening and night to all, stay safe and God bless, don't discriminate, don't be judgmental, what we all need nowadays is to be understanding and support one another for this trying times or this Pandemic we all are facing and experiencing right now. Brb soon as it's already dinner time, nag-aalburuto na ang alaga ko eh, lol, let's eat po :)
It is unfair to put a stigma to people who have been victims themselves. The disease itself is already a very difficult one. They don't need anymore troubles caused by stigma.
