When I was a kid, I was already into cooking shows. I grew up watching most of Sandy Daza's cooking show and when I was about to go to college it was Heny Sison. I do not know what is it in cooking shows that made me watch it. Probably because I used to keep most of the recipes that is posted in food packagings or maybe because I used to watch my mom cooks when I was young. Whatever the reason it may be, I certainly realized that I am really into food even when I was young.
Do you watch cooking shows? Who were your favorite cooks or chefs? What shows do you watch? Over the years, a lot of cooking shows has been available on TV especially on cable channels and now you can find a lot more cooming videos on Youtube. I was already in college when I came upon the Food Network channel. There I saw a lot of great chefs like Mario Batali, Emeril Lagasse, Giada de Laurentiis and Bobby Flay. I also did watch a few shows from Barefoot Contessa, Rachael Ray and Nigella Lawson. Even my college friend named her daughter Nigella. My brother even introduced me to the Iron Chef shows and then later on to Master Chef.
Even if I did watched a lot of cooking shows in the past, it is still different when you are doing it in real life and the fact that it is more focused on the dish and not on the host or the cook. Sorry I just wanted to include that. LOL. I'm still at that moment in my life that I am thinking about my channel. When I am watching cooking shows, I find it really awesome when they get to prepare beautiful dishes. But later on I found out that some of it they have actually prepared ahead of time.
Anyway, watching cooking shows has been a little therapeutic for me and even if I am also cooking, I find peace whenever I am at the kitchen. There's just this certain vibes to it that clears my mind aside from exercising. Have you also felt that when you are in the kitchen or not?
Remember my criticism article when somebody commented on my Youtube video that it is not how to make an aglio oglio pasta? I haven't gotten over it yet but I have seen some videos and I can say thay mine is a little similar to them. However recently I have watched one cooking show and my eyes went big when she mentioned how to get the coconut cream out from the coconut milk that was being sold in cans. She said to transfer the contents of the can in a bowl and to not stir it in a day. Then the liquid is the coconut milk and the white is the coconut cream. Ugh! You cannot get coconut cream out of the coconut milk, girl.
You can buy both coconut cream and coconut milk by cans or cartons in supermarket but if you are going to use fresh shredded coconut, mix it with water and the first juices that you get from squeezing it is the coconut cream and the next would be coconut milk. In Filipino, coconut cream is called as kakang gata. Cocomut cream is thicker than coconut milk.
Going back to the cooking show that I have watched, she then uses the liquid that she got from the coconut milk in her pastry and then she used the white consistency that she got for her icing. I do not know how it tasted but she sure liked it. But then again it was recorded and edited so we really didn't know if it was really good.
Are you familiar with chef Gordon Ramsay? How about uncle Roger? There was one video that I saw where uncle Roger was so disgusted over the egg fried rice that was cooked on a cooking show. She cooked the rice the wrong way as if she was cooking pasta noodles. There will always be some videos that aren't done correctly and there will always be dishes that would turn out to be awful. Just like in life, we cannot really create a perfect result right away because it takes a lot of trial and error before we can call it a masterpiece.
Other than the people that I have mentioned above, I also like watching videos from Chef RV Manabat and Judy Ann Santos. They make cooking really cool, easy, awesome and informative. You can also include my former colleagues cooking videos and Nino's Home which have the same concept as of my cooking videos of not showing our faces. Even if I have always wanted to watch a lot of cooking shows, I never dreamt of having my own where I would talk to the viewers and explain each things about particular dish. I remember when I was in college where we had to take a video while we were cooking, I volunteered that I will just be the assistant of the cook and not say even a single word. LOL. Our classmates laughed at me because I really didn't speak during the entire video. LOL. Though it is through watching these cooking shows that started my love and passion for food and cooking or probably just in cooking because I have always loved food. LOL.
If you know any cooking video or channel that you would like me to watch, let me know. I would love to watch them.
P.S. my lead image was a screenshot from one of my favorite cooking channel on Youtube. And I so want to visit his restaurant soon after this pandemic. My cousin had already said thatbwe will be going there once I visit them in South.
