In 1872, there was a revolution that was created by 200 Filipino Military Personnel of Fort San Felipe Arsenal in Cavite. It has been called the 1872 Cavite Mutiny. The aim of this revolution was to get rid of the Spanish Government in the Philippines. Filipinos wanted to fight for their rights since the privileges of the laborers were removed such as tax exemption and forced labor.

This revolution led to the execution of three martyr priests: Father Mariano Gomez, Jose Burgos and Jacinto Zamora. These three priests were accused as the leaders of the said revolution to a new goverment free of Spaniards because of that, they were charged with treason, sedition and subversion.

These three priests were not even close. They only wanted to fight for equal rights among priests and on the issues of secularization which led to the conflict of religious and secular churches.

The death of Gomburza became a controversial issue. It awakened strong spirits of anger and resentment of the Filipinos. The tragic end led to the uprise of Philippine Nationalism.

Gomburza didn't die for nothing. They died as heroes who managed to help change our history and solidify nationalism to everyone.

People nowadays are different. The sacrifices of these heroes meant nothing to most filipinos now. As long as they have their freedom, theyre okay with that. Thats why studying philippine history is really important so filipinos will learn to appreciate the freedom we have today
