How did you feel on the 1st part of the story? Personally, I felt sad and proud how each members of the family became each one's anchor of strength.
One year after Bert's death, the family slowly get back to their own lives. Susan was enjoying her job in the marketing industry; promoting movies from all over the country. She was promoted to a managerial position and was able to hire her 1st born Nina. Mari on the other hand was already reviewing for the licensure exam of Physical Therapist and the youngest was busy with his schooling as well as accepting sidelines in designing.
The family slowly regaining confidence and their careers are blossoming when one sunny morning, Susan fainted while she was in the bathroom. The kids immediately helped and rushed her to the hospital. Good thing it's just a minor injury in her harm. The kids just panicked or overreacted maybe because of trauma of what happened to their dad before.
Life goes on with the whole family, they try to travel as much as they can and explore different places in the country. Mari passed the board exam for PT and finally landed in a reputable hospital in their city. While Joe graduated already but he could not take the board exam yet for architecture because they are required to at least have a one (1) year experience in that field.
Every things seems right 3 years after their father's death but then another painful news came when their mom had the company's annual physical examination. They found out that there is a big lump in her breast and the doctor immediately recommended to have it checked to see if it's malignant or not. At first Susan was hesitant, she was afraid to know the truth but the kids convince her and so she agreed.
The exam's result was bad, Susan needs to have immediate operation as the lump was already big and after that she needed to undergo chemotherapy. The kids were so afraid for their mother and they could not afford to lose their only parent. Nina resigned from work to look after their mother while Mari and Joe worked hard to support for the medical expenses. And they also received emotional and financial support from both their parent's family.
Susan's operation was successful and the chemotherapy went well. After a year of continuous medication, she decided to go back to work. Luckily her previous employer still accepted her and her daughter Nina.
Then 2020 came with a bang and their family was greatly affected because on that new year's eve, Susan was rushed to the hospital due to a minor seizure. Different laboratory exams has been made and the result was not good. There had been complications identified and it already affected her brain. While others are posting their new years celebration, food and all, Nina, Mari and Joe posts are otherwise. They were requesting everyone to pray for their mother because she's the only parent they have. It was such a painful new year but they needed to be strong and not show that kind of emotion to their mom. They needed to pretend that mommy will be better and that they could go home soonest.
One month, two months, three months, Susan's health condition never improved and the doctor already frankly told the kids that there is only 10% chance that their mother would survive. It would be best to bring her home and give all the love they could give to her. But the kids don't want to take that and still fought for that 10% chance. The kids continued to asked for prayers, you can see in their social media platforms how they cried for help, for miracle.
And God heard their cries and prayers and Susan's health condition miraculously improved. The doctors were even shocked how it happened. On her 4th month, Susan was released from the hospital and finally got home. The kids decided to resign from work and focus with their mother. They felt that their mother needed them most and time is precious, they don't know what will happen tomorrow. Everyday was like a celebration for the whole family and that happiness somehow helped Susan get better.
The family just celebrated Joe's birthday at home, it was a simple celebration joined by close relatives and friends. They could not go out of town due to travel restrictions because of the pandemic. The house was filled with laughter and Susan had a great time talking to each of their visitors. It was a great day!
When all the visitors left, she gathered all her children and talked to them. Telling them how much she loves them, how proud she and dad for their accomplishments and sacrifices for the whole family and that if given the chance, in the next life she would choose them to be her family again. Joe stopped her mom from talking and just hugged her so tight and told her how much they love her and dad. Nina and Mari were crying and joined the two. It was the tightest hug that no one wants to let go, tears overflow.
They all slept together in one room that night when Joe woke up at around 4am, he saw that mom already left them. He woke his sisters and called for ambulance. Mom is gone.
The end.

I had goosebumps from the part that they were asking for prayers in welcoming the year until the last part. As of typing this I am also having goosebumps. The story was very sad but at least they had spent a lot of time with their mother and for sure she died happy and peacefully.
