Budol is Real! BEWARE

Budol-budol is a Filipino term for an act of deceiving a person just to get something from them like money, property.

Last Sunday, we were a busy having breakfast when someone came and ask for my sister who owns a newly established sari-sari store. But since her son would not want her to go out, she let her husband accommodate this guy. After a while, my brother-in-law came home and told us that the guy was offering them to be a sub-dealer of frozen products. Being a sub-dealer means you are the only store who exclusively sells their products in a particular area like the whole barangay. A freezer will be provided including tarpaulin, a monthly electricity allowance and a commission for every frozen products they will be able to sell. It was too good to be true and my brother-in-law immediately agreed though she consulted my sister but the offer was too tempting and told her husband that they will give it a try.

After lunch time this guy and his team came back and showed them their products. My sister came home to get money and the next thing I know they are asking me to take photos of these frozen goods and post it in their Facebook page. I noticed three (3) separate bags of frozen goods and my sister said, it was a pre-order from the supplier and since they are the sub-dealer they will just pick it up in the store. Hours passed by and they could not wait for the buyer to pick them up so they decided to deliver it to their house. Unfortunately, our neighbor sad she never ordered anything like that and so they came home with these frozen products back. My sister and her husband tried contacting the supplier but they can no longer be reached. The value of the said frozen items by the way was P4000 or approximately, 80-90 dollars.

My brother-in-law was already feeling different and said, 'nabudol na yata tayo' (I think we have been deceived). But my sister was still hopeful that they will return the next day and give what they promised. So I still continued taking photos of their items and messaged some neighbors if they would want to buy some. Here comes the following day, Monday. Tik-tok, tik-tok! The guy was still unreachable and after lunch time they gave up and accepted the fact that they have been hypnotized and deceived. What's even worst is that they paid 3x higher than the actual products they received! My sister felt disappointed with what happened, for being so trusting that she even want to give all the frozen products away. Her husband was still smiling but you can see it in his actions that he don't feel good; big sighs!

They reported this incident to the police earlier and the police officer even asked, why did you allow them to deceive you? There are a lot of modus this days and you should always be careful. My brother-in-law just answered, we are reporting the said incident so that you can warn others that this kind of modus is present in our municipality and so that these kind of people can no longer deceive another set of victims.

My sister and her husband learned their lesson from this experience. It will take time before they recover from that loss but money can be earned. And I told them that they will receive more blessings in return.

It's really unbelievable that even this hard and trying times, pandemic to be exact, some people can still find ways to take advantage and deceive others. How they can be so heartless and at the same time enjoy these money that came from their modus.

So my friends, always be vigilant. Don't be easily swayed with good words, too good to be true offers, and don't be too trusting. For a business like this, you should always check for the authenticity and validity of their papers and always ask proofs like IDs, company profile, etc. Always validate, do your own research and to learn not say YES in an instant.
