On Friday, a Turkish psychologist warned of the danger of children's addiction to modern technological devices, and stressed the importance of the family's role in this regard.

This came in a speech by Professor Kamal Sayyar, during active participation on the impact of these devices on children's social relations, organized by the Greater Konya municipality, central Turkey.

The event witnessed the participation of the mayor of "Marim" in Konya, Mustafa Kavoush, in addition to many academics and students.

Sayar said that children's addiction to modern technological devices is mainly due to parents ’addiction to their use.

And he added, "When the child sees his parents in front of the screens, he is forced to use them, which causes him to be addicted to them."

He added that the child will stay away from these devices if the family at home creates an atmosphere of communication and dialogue.

He stressed, "The more time we spend in front of the screens, the more we lose our ability to read people's facial expressions and what they suggest."

He warned that "we also lose our affection for others, and we turn into emotionally rigid people with a lot of technology."

And that's why the "technological elite" in Silicon Valley never let their kids have a smartphone/computer/tablet...

Yeah, we need to be reading more physical printed books in front of the children, rather than staring at screens. Though, times are changing. I'm not even sure there will be any printed book soon.

Everything became electronic, but we are obligated to teach our children something useful

I guess the children is fine to handle his smart devices AFTER he is old enough to be able to handle them on his own - to be able to turn on and read the texts on a tablet, to be able to plug the TV and turn it on alone.

But putting videos in the front of the children JUST to sedate him/her so he is more quiet, should not be the normal behavoiour of a parent.
