Ingredients for 6 people:
1 egg yolk
150 ml. warm milk
100 ml. hot water
1 teaspoon salt (if needed)
20 gr. fresh yeast
1/2 Baking powder
3 teaspoons sugar (crystal)
125 gr. 125 gr. butter or margarine
500 gr. Podravka smooth flour
zest lemon - zest
1 vanilla sugar
1 egg white for coating
fil
if necessary apricot jam
100 gr. ground walnuts that we steamed with three spoons of hot milk
topping
1 teaspoon water
1 cup sugar (crystal)
a few almond leaves
a little powdered sugar
Preparation
1.
Put yeast with a spoonful of sugar in warm water and wait for about 10 minutes for it to sour.
Then add, warm milk, one egg yolk, melted butter or margarine, baking powder and gradually add flour. Knead until a fine compact mass is obtained. Cover the dough and leave it to rise for about an hour.
When the dough has risen, divide it into two parts.
Stretch one part in the shape of a rectangle measuring 40x30cm.
Divide into three strips, into two, coat the length with apricot jam (about 2-3 tablespoons), and on the third in the middle put the stuffing of steamed ground walnuts. Bend from the sides inwards and roll into a roll, taking care to bend the ends so that the jam does not leak.
From these three strips make a braid, put it in a tray, lined with baking paper.
I baked in a bread tray measuring 30x12cm.
Make another braid in the same way, coat with whipped egg whites.
Leave for about 15 minutes to rise and bake at 180 degrees for about 30 minutes. Until it gets a nice yellow color.
Make the dressing by heating the sugar and water and let it boil for a few minutes. Remove from the stove.
Just before the end of baking, coat the braids with sugar topping, sprinkle with powdered sugar and almond leaves and leave in the switched off oven for another five minutes.
Serving
Serve it with coffee or tea ...
