The image of Kofetarica, which could be described as "Slovenian Mona Lisa" in terms of popularity, was created in Munich in 1888. The painter loved the painting so much that she never wanted to sell it. Despite the dark color, which illuminates only the essentials, it fills with warmth the expression of a coffee-drinking mother, an elderly good-natured lady who smiles somewhat mysteriously, contentedly at such a simple pleasure as drinking coffee. All attention is thus focused on the mood and creates the impression that the viewer is kindly invited to this social ceremony. The intoxication of coffee is already indicated by the brownish shades that were one of the Munich commandments of influential painting professors at the time.
The mother of that painting is Ivana Kobilica. Ivana is the most famous Slovenian painter. (December 20, 1861, Ljubljana, † December 4, 1926, Ljubljana.)
