Language barrier: pain of not understanding each others language.
In any project, were we are working with a multi-ethnicity and multi-language group, luckily, we have chosen English as a common language. It has already become a great progress, but somehow, we still feel something wrong. The native English speaker will think that for them, it is normal to do that. But for the others who have not been in contact with English for some time, this will create a language barrier in the work environment.
In order to avoid such situations, by providing translation tools and training translation tools, it can help these people to communicate fluently with each other. This is only one of many skills there are in the workplace. We want to provide everyone with the ability to communicate effectively. So that they can meet each other’s needs and build a strong team together.
It's a story of 3 foolish men. The first was from Italy named Luigi, the second one was from China named chingli, The third one was from Africa named Ibrah, because they didn't understand each other language they all decided to work in the same place at a construction company and share their wages at the end of the month. They worked so hard that they got payment or salary on the last day of their service. When they shared their salaries they gave Luigi $400, Chingli $700 and Ibrah got $200.
There first work together, the Three of them were employed by a contractor to do some plastering for him. They were given three ladders and told to go and plaster the walls of a building. The first man went up the ladder and used the brush, but after he had covered a certain amount of his part of the wall he became thirsty and tried to find a water tap to drink from, but he could not find one. Then he tried to descend the ladder but could not, so he had to stay up there until his time was finished.
The second man went up the ladder with the bucket and threw water on the plastering and continued doing this until he became thirsty. So he tried to go down and could not, so he too had to stay until his time was finished. The third man also took a bucket, but decided to go and see if he could get some water before going up the ladder. While he was away the other two came down and one asked where the other was.
Another instant Luigi counts his money and finds that he makes $100 more. He thinks to himself, “How lucky am I! I’m the richest of them all.” When the Chingli counts, he finds that he makes $105 more. “How lucky am I!” he says. “I’m richer than the other fellow.” Then Ibrah starts counting his, He finds that he has $150 more. He then shouts, “I’m richer than all of my colleagues. Due to there language barrier, they foolishly taught they have out smart each other.
One day a friend of theirs ask them to go and work together at a place. They happily accept the offer and the first day they went to the office, they are very happy and excited. They went to their working place, tools in hand with great expectations that they will make more money today. An hour into the job, the foreman tells them to work faster, he speaks with an attitude and dismissive tone as he ordered them to do. The three men begin to work with great excitement and vigor.
After about 5 hours of working, the foreman comes back with a smile on his face and rubs his hands to show his happiness because he is receiving his pay check from the company. Again he reminds them to work faster. At the end of their service they all go to the office to get their pay check but to there surprise they see that they were given only a little monepy.
This final act make them to resolve on improving themselves on their spoken abilities of a common language, picking English as preferences.
