Modern-day civilizations have taken away most of our cultural beliefs and traditions. Mostly, Religious belief has made us side-line our own traditional belief and this has given room to so many abnormalities. If our traditional beliefs were still much in place I so much believe that things won’t be as bad as it is in our political system as a nation.

What is our traditional belief?

These are the gods of our land

-Ogun (the god of Iron),

This is known to be a god of metal and is mostly worshipped by blacksmiths, hunters and drivers. It passes its judgement with metal, leaving the offender in the pool of blood. Ogun worshipper beheads dogs as sacrifices them.

Sango (the god of thunder):

This is known for its powerful axe and struck its offender with thunder and lightning. According to legend, he got married to oya.

Oya (the of storms, winds and lightning):

She Was a loving wife to Sango and she was known for her mighty deeds during her lifetime. It was recorded that she turned into a big river known as Odo Oya (River Niger).

Obatala (father of all gods):

Known as the father of all the gods in our land.

And others ...

All these above-mentioned gods are traditionally worshipped in Nigeria. They once existed in human form and are still known for their deeds during their existence. Christianity and Islamic religion are the two major religions presently in our country.

Christianity preaches forgiveness and grace, and judgement is not from man but God Himself. Yes, this is true, but God always gives room for repentance or let me say second chance. But for the gods, it vengeance at all cost and immediately without hesitation. This is why I say if our politicians take the oath of office in the name of these gods 99% of them would have been strike down before the end of their tenure.

These gods don’t just kill people without any offences, they all stand for justice and don’t give room for repentance. Another downside about these gods is that their worshippers can find a way of manipulating them to fight against anyone who has offended them personal or who they want to show their wickedness. So it's not all those who they strike are offenders.

This reminded me of a real-life story that happened in 2006. We had a little downpour proceeded by a heavy sound of thunder. Which struck down 7 people at the same time on the same day. The 7 of them were struck down for different reasons. We later gathered that a woman stole a goat and sold it to someone else, who was aware that the goat was stolen.

The owner of the goat consulted Sango to avenge her stolen goat, and immediately it strikes and exposes the two of them. They both confess and died immediately. The remaining 5 struck on that same day were girls and young teenagers, 4 died immediately and the 1 who later died confessed.

In her confession, she made it know that they killed a very brilliant girl that died in their school. Her death was so painful that her parents consulted Sango worshippers to know what killed their daughter, and they gave them 7days that the perpetrators will be revealed and so be it.

This instills fear into a lot of people and made them quit from their insincerity and wickedness. Some even go to the extent of confessing their past evil and pleaded for forgiveness in order not to invoke the wrath of the gods.

I can't say anything because everyone has its own believes.

These things don't work.

If they did, European expeditions in Africa wouldn't have happened.

Upon all the yam and ogogoro they get fed with, the white man still managed to come around and cart our people to slavery.

The deads coincided with the issues of those time. Not like Sango caused it.

Traditions and culture can never reject that God is a supreme being. He is the God of all gods.
