Background information
This is a random topic that I wanted to write today. It is not a well thought out topic which is why this is a 2nd article of the day instead of an article for a day.
It will most probably be a mini rant of sorts and some thoughts as well.
The topic comes to my mind after our group chat for our block started to get alive.
First it was a message of our class president telling us that there will be a registration soon for students who are not yet vaccinated. Once they fill up the form, then they will be scheduled to receive a jab in the university's vaccination site.
Everything is going over smoothly until one snarky blockmate messaged, "register na kayo kung gusto niyo Sinovac turok sa inyo". (Register for it if you want to receive sSinovac.)
For additional background, the people from our city are given a choice whether they would like to take that brand of vaccine that is available for the day. It is always announced while people are still in line waiting for the registration so one will have plenty of time to leave if they do not find think the vaccine will be right for them. The registration for the vaccination for students is also open for people outside of the city as long as they are willing to travel.
Anyway, my bloackmate's earlier statement had a weird connotation of vaccine discrimination in the opinion of some blockmates. That snarky message was then replied to by another blockmate saying that a vaccine is a vaccine. This for me, implies that they are saying the brand does not matter.
This is a fair opinion as this is what officials from WHO have been telling people. All the vaccines being distributed to people have passed standards testing and are safe for use. (Check out the articles in the link I included for more information about it.)
Everything seems pretty normal right? Not something really worth making an article for.
But then, the snarky blockmate suddenly responded that they were just sharing an information so why are "we" taking it in a bad light.
Another blockmate responded to explain why someone replied that a vaccine is a vaccine, by saying that the phrasing "if you want sinovac" does sound bad in light of the vaccine discrimination that is happening.
Then the snarky one said that if "we" are offended then it is not his problem. He said that what he stated about the brand of vaccine being given is neutral. Then proceeded to curse us.
My thoughts
I get that he was only informing the block about the brand of the vaccine being given. It is important to know what vaccine is going to be available after all. Maybe others had a pronlem with how his phrase looked a bit discriminatory against Sinovac. I also did not like how he included the whole block in his anger, when barely half of our block even saw our president's chat.
I agree with the ones who said that a vaccine is a vaccine, somehow but not completely. Of course, a vaccine will be able to help protect is from getting infected but it is equally important that we receive the vaccine that we are comfortable with.
Imagine that you are scared of getting vaccinated because of the side effects that you have been hearing and then you did your research to decide what you would want best for you. But upon getting to the vaccination center, you are informed that you cannot choose your vaccine, how would you feel?
You would be probably overthinking the side effects and what not. Instead of feeling happy about vaccinated, you are now feeling anxious. So yes, a vaccine is a vaccine but we are also free to know what is being given and to decide if we want to take that specific brand or wait for pther brands. Yes, that sounds against what the idea of "a vaccine is a vaccine" phrase but I am hoping that you get the gist of what I am trying to say.
What I hate about the interaction is that instead of replying calmly that he only meant to inform us, he instead chose to be defensive and even cursed the whole block.
Fortunately, it seems like the saying the "boys are easier to let go of their anger than girls" is true since everyone is already laughing about it a few minutes after it happened. A friend of the snarky blockmate revealed that he was not able to get much sleep since he is busy grinding in an online game which is why he is easily irritated.
This is a good reminder to take proper amount of rest so that you will not be always angry. Like my title says, just chill, dude. Everything can be dealt with proper communication. Let us refrain from reacting everytime and learn to think first before engaging in a conversation.
Also, if you are able to get vaccination, please do get one. Let us all do our part in helping lessen the risk of infection from this virus so that we may once again do what we want freely.
If you are wondering, I did not get a Sinovac vaccine since there was a different brand available that day. Personally, I do not really care much for the brand since my bestfriend who is studying BS Nursing assures us that evrry vaccine being given out are safe to use. They just have different level of efficacy and different criteria for efficacy as well.
This is all that I want to say in this article. Have a great day everyone! Don't forget to eat. Amd stay hydrated.
Thank you so much for reading this article!
