Violence Against Women and Children PH
(VAWC) Is anyone of you being aware of this act? According to Republic Act 9262,
IT IS AN ACT DEFINING VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND THEIR CHILDREN, PROVIDING FOR PROTECTIVE MEASURES FOR VICTIMS, PRESCRIBING PENALTIES THEREFORE, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. In the U.S they call it (VAWA) Violence Against Women Act initially signed into law by Former Pres. Bill Clinton last September 1994.
We never know, we have Filipino women in this platform who are experiencing violence and another kind of maltreatment from their husbands. We have many cases in our country about violence against women and children that's why the I wanted to extend my knowledge to all of you as you might encounter people with the kind of situation and you can share it with them.
"Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004”. Our government aims to protect the dignity and freedom of women and their children and to have full respect from human rights. Women and chilren are the most vulnerable ones, so in a chaotic relationship, they become the victims and most disadvantaged. 18 yrs old below are considered children. Beyond 18 who are incapable of deciding for themselves due to emotional, physical, and mental illness are still considered under the protection law. Therefore, the state agreed that any offence regarding the abuse of either the woman and her children(legitimate, illegitimate) shall face penalty depending on the ground committed by the offender. We need to combat and violence and give protection to women and children.
VAWC is a crime. This was signed by Former President Gloria Macapagal on March,2004. This ensures the safety of a woman and her children from the abuse of her
🔹husband ex-husband
🔹live-in partner or ex live-in partner
🔹boyfriend/girlfriend or ex boyfriend/girlfriend
🔹dating partner or former dating partner.
A woman has a right to complain and file a case if she or her child is experiencing abuses from his partner. Abuse doesn't only includes sexual assault, physical abuse but recounted verbal insults as well, economic abuse, and threats by an offender to his partner.
Here are the classifications of abuses:
📍First is the physical violence which pertains to harming the victim physically.
👊Battered wife- VAWC has a great effect on women especially for prolonged battering experience. Cases are, women that are being abused physically are triggered and commits murder and kill their partner thinking it the only way to escape her suffering. However, it can become a defense for a women called BATTERED WIFE SYNDROME to win over a murder case in court provided she sought for help and be diagnosed by a psychiatrist and clinical psychologist for having a battered wife syndrome in order to have a just decision in her case.
📍Next is Sexual violence that pertains to
(1) rape, sexual harassment, the act of lasciviousness, treating a woman and her child as sex toys, forcefully letting them watch obscene publications and videos or do indecent acts for film making. Forcing the victim to live together in the conjugal home or sleep together in the same room is another sexual violence.
(2)Another sexual violence is the acts resulting or trying to force the victim to do sexual acts forcefully and threatening and pressuring the person.
(3)Prostituting the woman and child- some men
pushed their wives and their children to engage prostitution just to have someone to provide for their bad vices instead of them a man provides for his family. Others uses the woman and her children for personal sexual benefit that cause demoralizing themselves.
📍Psychological violence- this is kind of violence in which others do not think a part of abusing and demoralizing a woman and child but the truth is, it also contributes one of the biggest abuse cases in our country and the other part of the world. One person who suffers from psychological violence became emotionally unstable and if not prevented, it leads them to end their own life and commit murder. If an abuser causes the victim to suffer mental and emotional difficulty, he can be sued. Also when the abuser frightens, harass, stalks the victim and destroying its property, it is a valid basis for complaint.
▪️Who wants to get insulted in public? No one. Insulting/humiliation in public and recounted verbal insult is still counted for physiological violence.
▪️ Others are cheating/adultery.
▪️Enabling the victim to witness physical, sexual, and psychological abuse of any of the member of the family including the victim or
▪️ to witness any form of pornography and
▪️ trying the victim to watch abusing and injuring pets and also
▪️denying the custody and visitation of children of both parties.
📍Economic abuse, this pertains to acts that make a woman financially dependent on the abuser. She is not given the freedom to do her ways about money budgeting and do not have the freedom to participate in any career she wants to engage with. The sole right in handling the money and their cojugal property is the husband which is not good. (depends if there's a history of mishandling of money from the wife that's another story) . And destroying of family/household property.
Abusing maybe act directly or threatening the woman. It may be directly done to the wife and her children and her family members for threat. It maybe is done inside or outside the home premises.
Penalty for offenders proven guilty may be imprisoned and obliged to pay not less than 100,000php-300,000 for damage.
The offender also is obliged to undergo psychological counselling or psychiatric treatment.
The offender is not allowed to have the custody of the children even if the woman was found to have BATTERED WIFE SYNDROME.
Being drunk or under the influence of the prohibited drug is not a valid reason and is not an excuse for committing VAW.

saddest part in our place, ikaw na nga biktima ikaw pa pagsasabihan. just like psychologically abuse which leads the victim to bcome emotioanally unstaible na when he/she commits suicide ay pagsasabihan pang "tamad". Meaning, little understanding p din ang tao dito sa atin, close ang utak nila sa mga cases. It is like something na unacceptable, just like depression. we're much thankful that 4ps is educating their recipients on things like this one, na dapat kelangan din mga lalake ang umattend ksi mostly, cla ang offenders. Economic abuse is also one which leads the victim to be depressed. Imagine, verbally abusing a wife saying to sell her only property in payment of the little money the husband had entrusted her which the wife spent for the kids primary needs because of his act of bad vices leading him not provide. I wonder where this falls into..
