Never A Crime To Be A Woman, Let's Rise To The Challenge
While thinking of what to write to entertain my increasing number of subscribers, I remembered a lady who used to stay in our neighborhood while I was still in Manila. She has two children both raised by her, not for the fact she lost her husband but because they were the other gender. Woman are often referred to as the other gender. Though they were abandoned by their father, but tell me a sane woman who will abandon her own children. She trained them all by herself by doing some menial jobs in the province, today she is enjoying the fruit of her labor.
That hasn't changed the notion of women being a punching bag at the slightest provocation. The pains and stress of child bearing can't be compared to those gotten from the love of your life. The very man you agreed to spend the rest of your life with, rather than fight back for peace to reign, she keeps quiet hoping someday he will change. The pains and torments continues.
Aside dealing with a nagging and abusive husband, her own body is at war with her. How will a living being bleed for 12 months with mild to severe cramps and still smile like nothing really happens. Even with the pains, she still has to keep the family in order, cooking, cleaning and tucking the children in bed. She is strong in her own way.
Going to work, she is faced with a difficult boss, who orders her around and makes her feel less of herself. She tries her possible best just to make things work, from coming to work early to working extra hours, just to please her stubborn boss, who thinks every woman is to be bullied. Bullied not because of her tribe, race or height but bullied because of her gender. She was meant to pay for the crime she never committed.
She is out of the office and into the society, she is seen as the weaker vessel who isn't meant to talk in public or allowed to make decisions when the male folks are around. She is pushed to the wall, regardless of her level of education, she is subjected to being rule by both the unskilled and unqualified males. she is chased away like a leper from leadership positions, to them they were meant to be ruled and not rule.
Certain cultures have subjected them to becoming housewives regardless of their level of education. To them all a woman has to offer is to give birth and stay to take care of the home. Same society where the male folks, commits fornication and they are applauded for being tough and playboys, can I ask you a question, have you ever heard the term 'playgirl' before. They are applauded, while we are mocked, ridiculed and chased off from associating with others, for the same crime, our male counterpart committed. Same society where she is mocked for improper dressing but the males are described as being fashionable. Then you sit to ask yourself, was it a crime to be a woman ?
Among her own gender, they ceased to like each other, no wonder some ladies prefer having male friends to female. But how will we grow and break free from this stigma of being a woman, how ? I'd we can't love ourselves and work together to prove to the world, we are proud of being who we are, how will they tend to accept us ? The same movement that was to be used to fight for the freedom of women has been hijacked and misused. Now giving the male gender, more reasons to hate on us. We now have ladies fighting against ladies because the very reason for the feminist movement is no longer understood.
Wake up women, if we can fight our body to conquer the menstrual cramps, if we can triumph during child birth then we need to show the world we are as tough and blessed like the men. We don't need to use force to do this, let's begin by loving ourselves. Rather than create more fractions in the movement against gender inequality let us bridge the gap. Let us show to the whole world, being a woman was never a mistake. Let us kick against gender inequality, abusive relationship and societal isolation.
