National language month (Buwan ng Wika)
Kumusta kayong lahat? How are you all? This month we will be celebrating here in the Philippines the so-called "Buwan ng Wika" or National Language Month". During this month, usually, in some schools there will be a program like having a contest for "Tula, Balagtasan", in which we will use our language in those activities. There are also some visitors who will give their speeches, most likely, our barangay chairman, councilors, and our principal.
And yesterday, our President had already given his speech which inspire us not to forget our language as Filipino, but instead to know it better.
Even if we have this kind of celebration, I'd still choose to write my article in the English language for the sake of our foreign friends so that they can also understand what I'm saying in the article.
I write in English, which does mean that I don't love our national language, but I would like to deal with everybody here since English is the form of communication that suits everyone.
How do I like our language Filipino?
Honestly, I have a hard time understanding some of the Filipino languages especially those that are having a deep meaning. And also, I am a Bisaya, and we seldom speak Tagalog in our place, because our neighbors will just laugh at us when used to Filipino, they will say that "tagalogot man", and then we will laugh together.
I like the Filipino vernacular because it's a part of our culture and we grow together in this language, in school when we are young, we are being told and read stories through it. Like," legend or Alamat, kwentong bayan,Bugtong or parable, and other short stories. I still remember when I was in high school, we do have an assignment, to find each of them in the library, that's why we stayed there for more than an hour, and find Filipino books. That was a rare moment when we don't have no internet, no smartphone, and a xerox machine was not available nearby, and we will just copy it with our pen and a bond paper, maybe those who are
Here in the Philippines, even if we have this national language, we also have different speeches in our provinces like Bisaya, Ilokano, Manobo, Bagobo, Bla'an, and many more. We have different tribes and each of them has a different way of speaking, and thanks to our national language which is Filipino, it became a bridge to break the gap between each group . We are rich in native languages which I don't know how to speak, and can only talk to them through Filipino words.
What are the best Filipino words for me?
Here are some of the best Filipino words that I ever wanted that my kids would apply day by day are;
Po at
opo
It's a Filipino words that shows respect towards other people, like and elderly, older sister, brother, our parents, grandmother, and even our friends. One of the expressions of being respectful. I like it when the kids are using this words in talking to anyone, it means that they have learned proper manners.
Mahal Kita( I love you)
These is the sweetest Filipino word when a man wants to express his love a lady, " Mahal Kita" , the most beautifulword that I can ever hear, in Bisaya , "Gihugugma teka".
Most difficult Filipino words that are hard to speak;
Pina- ka -na-ka- pag - pa -ba- ga- bag (means it makes your heart beats fast)
This is one of the most tongue twisters that is used by some foreign bloggers when they are being challenged to speak our language.
I can say, that our youth must also learn more about the Filipino language. Our president has encouraged us to study this language further.As we have observed, even a baby that age 4 years old, are fluent in English, especially when the parents are using it at home.
One thing is that, we should never forget that this language is ours specifically.
Language is one of a vital parts of our lives as a countryman, it will connect us to people, in business, and in any form of engagement, it also signifies our identity.
A few days ago, our president have also announced that our teachers should use the English language as a medium in the coming school year . Why does he say that ? In order for us to become competent when it comes to business with other nationalities, and go with the flow of the growing technologies, means we also need to improve our skills so that we can easily interact with others every time we need to communicate . We need to embrace development and changes but it doesn't mean that we will forget our national tongue.
End notes:
It's not just about language itself, but its all about being a patriot as a Filipino people who gives value to our culture.Although our country is not the riches of the world, but we are abundant within our country,especially in terms of cultural background.Every tribe and tongue will all gathered a one and this national language that we have will break the gap to each one of us.
I am grateful for your visit on this post.
So long.
Happy language month in the philippines. how nice to see that they take care of their roots.
