No economy, industry or business spared from the consequences of the novel corona virus.
Some industries affected more than others, and the impacts are on a large scale.
But how seriously are we affected? Experts are drawing up doomsday scenarios, even predict that the 2008 Financial Crisis would seem a like a glitch in the larger scheme of things in the post-Covid-19 world.
Let’s look at some industries COVID-19 will change.
Aviation
The reason Covid-19 spread so fast to the remote end of the earth is aviation.
The spread of the novel corona virus has caused passenger demand to collapse, forcing airlines to park, instead of fly, their planes.
Slumps in travel demand is not new.
After the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001, passenger enthusiasm towards flying also waned amid security fears.
The 9/11 attacks also forced airlines to trim costs through furloughs, layoffs, and merger.
Covid-19 will have the similar impact on the industry and how passengers fare in the aftermath will depend on public policies governments around the world chose after COVID-19.
Movies & Arts
In early March 2020, It’s predicted that the global box office could lose US$5 billion because of the pandemic.
Across the world to varying degrees, cinemas and movie theatres closed, festivals cancelled or postponed, and film releases moved to future dates or delayed.
Because of cinemas and movie theatres closing, the global box office has dropped by billions of dollars, and streaming has become more popular.
Many blockbusters scheduled to release between March and November postponed or cancelled around the world, with film productions also being put on halt.
Health Sector
While healthcare workers are busy handling COVID-19 patients, healthcare offices affected by the decline in no. of other patients.
Some medical care practices reported reductions within the use of healthcare services of up to 70% Physicians in small private practices around the country reported steep declines in revenues
Reduction is so significant that some of them and their supporters turned to GoFundMe to raise funds to help pay their overhead.
Telemedicine has helped pick up only a small portion of the slack.
Although people packed beaches and boardwalks after restrictions lifted and Black Lives Matter demonstrators flooded city streets and parks, many patients still seem reluctant to visit physician offices.
Pediatric Patients Go Missing
The AAP in May launched a social media campaign, “#CallYourPediatrician,” to remind parents that they should still make appointments for well-child checks and immunizations during the pandemic
Education & students
Most Countries temporarily closed schools and colleges to contain the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
These nationwide closures are impacting many students.
Closing of educational institutions affects not only students, teachers, and families but has far-reaching economic and societal consequences.
In response to high school closures, UNESCO recommended the utilisation of distance learning programmes.
UNESCO has compiled an inventory of the varied educational platforms getting used round the world.
