Couples today are often so busy with life that they often don’t leave time in the week for each other. But all lovebirds deserve to have some time alone when they get to enjoy each other’s company. Money can be tight, but dates aren’t only when you go out to an expensive restaurant. Here are some ideas on how you can spend quality time together at home.
Cook together
Now before you glance to the next suggestion because of course you’ll be cooking something – I don’t mean making dinner and then eating it together. Make something where the actual cooking is the date. Things like on-table grilling, Korean BBQ, fondue and DIY tacos and sandwiches are all great options for enjoying food together. For dessert, you can perhaps create an open flame and roast some'smores, create crazy sundaes or take one of each sweet from a nearby sweetshop. You can also make food fun by creating a blind taste test, taking turns guessing the flavors you feed each other.
Movie night
Don’t stop at lounging on the couch and browsing through Netflix – make it a real treat. Buy or borrow a small projector and find an appropriate white wall or curtain that you can project on. Create a comfy pillow fort, or a special nest on the couch or the bed with pillows. Make popcorn in all different flavors, get candy and sodas and make it a real night at the movies. Have several movies lined up and watch them until you get your fill.
Cheese it up
Rom-coms have a very special depiction of date nights, and it’s become such a cliché that people tend to avoid them. However, why not go all out with the cheesiness and make the most cliché date in the world? Cook a good steak dinner, set the table with rose petals, tall glasses and the best silverware. Play Michael Bublé in the background and light some candles for mood light. Open a bottle of some great Burgundy wine and pour a few glasses while you talk about your day. Finish it off with a romantic walk through the park or by the river.
Game night
Everyone needs to wake up the kid inside them every once in a while, and what better way to do that than to play some fun games? You can go browsing for different board and card games the day before and get something that sounds fun for both. Then get some snacks for the night and a good playlist and start having some fun. If you feel like you want to get adulting, there are also some games that might get you more intimate with your partner.
First date recreation
There’s nothing quite as romantic as someone’s first date, and recreating that can really awaken a spark if you’ve forgotten how you first fell in love with each other. You might not be able to recreate the location and time, but you can recreate the important moments. Have the same food you had then, talk about the same things and see how much you’ve changed and grown, and share with each other now the unspoken feelings you had then.
Make plans
Nothing gets you as excited for the future as planning it. Sometimes, hunting for cheap flights and booking hotel rooms can feel like a chore, but you can make it a fun date if you approach it strategically. Take a map of the world or a globe and start picking out all the things you want to see. Research them and watch some travel documentaries until you find a place you really want to visit. Then look for tickets, accommodations and all the places you want to see. Make sure you have some fun drinks and snacks for the night and get planning. Keep in mind that you can do this even if you don’t currently have the funds and just bookmark it as a place you want to visit someday.
You wouldn’t be far from the truth if all you got from this is: have good food and do something fun, because that is exactly what a good date should be. All you really need is to enjoy your time together and remind yourself why you fell in love. It shouldn’t be hard at all, and taking the time to reconnect will do wonders for your relationship.
