In my last article I briefly talked about industry 4.0 and made very important highlights but for the good of those who have not read it and have no idea what industry 4.0 is I'd simply say it's the new era and phase of technology.
It's no news that many things we do manually are now being digitalised. We no longer have to travel miles to attend a meeting as we can do that virtually, we don't have to walk into the bank for everything as with the introduction of mobile banking. Interaction is now very easy, with voice assistant we can have all the information we seek just immediately, we be get real data of all that we need to make informed decisions all these and so much more thanks to industry 4.0. industry 4.0 is just an embodiment of various components and it is where the torch of technology is reflecting towards
There are nine pillars of industry 4.0 that forms everything we see. It includes
Virtual Reality
Blockchain technology
Augmented reality
Cloud computing
Big data
IOT (internet of things)
3D printing
Cyber security
Autonomous Robots (AI,
Systems integration
Let's get into all of these great concepts
Big leagues first.
IOT(Internet of Things) - This is basically connecting physical things via sensors to the internet. Giving every device like home appliances, shoes, clothes, house, car and even the human body internet services and making them smart or even smarter. It gives life to non living objects making them connect to perform whatever function it's programmed to
Why IOT?
Making more informed decisions aided by the torrent of interactional and transactional data at their disposal.
Improving performance.
Providing a platform for devices to represent themselves digitally and to control them from anywhere.
And most importantly facilitating connectivity by capturing more data to increase efficiency and improve safety and security.
So let's say the TV sets for example. Their main purpose is to enable us watch motion pictures and all that with IOT we can connect the tv set to your smartphone and the smartphone will act as the remote controller of the Tv s (now smart) which you can enable at any where in the world, You can connect it to beep or make a noise when touched a certain way or even show live the location of you TV set if stolen (Even smarter!)
Other applications include:
IOT can give a 24/7 check on the baby like a nurse and give real time result - The Mimo infant monitor provides real-time information about their baby's breathing, skin temperature, body position, and activity level. The monitor is placed on the baby's body and all of these information is being sent to the parents smartphone. This technology also works for adults as well. Wonderful right?
Sometimes patients especially the elderly forget to take their drugs in time and that might cause issues. Now IOT is saying we don't have to worry about that as there's a solution for us.how?Well it fit prescription bottles via a wireless chip and provide services that help people stick with their prescription regimen; from reminder messages, all the way to refill and doctor coordination.
Capture those important moments - Have you ever wished you could document your day on the go? With pictures and videos of priceless moments as they happen? well IOT has a solution. The Narrative clip made with IOT worn on your body captures your adventures as they happen and automatically send the best shots to be framed or printed.
Fun Fact : Do you know that IOT smart system can also be ingested into our body systems? Yes! The Proteus ingestible pill sensor is powered by contact with your stomach fluid and communicates a signal that determines the timing of when you took your meds and the identity of the pill. This information is transferred to a patch worn on the skin to be logged for you and your doctor's reference. Heart rate, body position and activity can also be detected. Instead of the series of test which might take time, this gives out same info at a very high speed which could a safe a life.
Crash Sensor- This IOT innovation Crash Sensor pairs your bicycle or motorcycle helmet, your car wheels to your smartphone. If you crash and hit your head,, a signal will be sent to the phone to automatically call for help. How does this technology work?
The sensor is mounted onto the helmet and is paired with your smartphone via Bluetooth. Once that sensor smacks with anything that’s hard (ice, snow, dirt) it uses the devices motion and impact calculations to determine the severity of the crash and initiate the 30-second countdown. If the injury is not bad and you can walk it off, simply cancel that countdown on your phone. If you don’t cancel it, your medical information and GPS coordinates will be sent to your designated emergency contact and you can expect help to be on the way.
If you are a bit clumsy like I am, keeping things and not knowing where to find them then this is for us - With IOT we can create tracking device and place on any item we choose to and if it gets misplace, we can easily track down those items egg lost keys, cell phone, ear buds etc
Internet of things is amazing. With it creativity never seem to end and absolutely anything can be connected both humans and objects.
If you'll love to connect stuffs you can start by learning C++
I hope you've learned a thing or two.
Hey! I’m an engineer and I know about little things about IOT. Well you are right with the C++ of a thing. C/C++ is the language of hardware. I know a little about them
