What is rabies:
Is a preventable virus disease. It can spread to people and pets if they are bitten or scratched by a rapid animal. However, in many other countries dogs still carry rabies death in people around the world. The rabies virus infects the central nervous system. If a person does not receive the appropriate medical care after a potential rabies exposure, the virus can cause disease in the brain, ultimately resulting in death.
The infectious Path of the Rabies Virus
An animal is bitten by a rapid animal
Rabies virus from the infected saliva enters the wound
Rabies virus travels through the nerves to the spinal cord and brain. This process can last approximately 3 to 12 weeks. The animal has no signs of illness during this time
When it reaches the brain the virus multiplies rapidly and passes to the salivary glands. The animal begins to show sign of the disease
The infected animal usually dies within 7 days of becoming sick.
Rabies is a viral disease that causes inflammation of the brain to humans and animals. The symptoms after being exposed are Nausea, vomiting, violent movements, uncontrollable excitement, fear of water, an inability to move parts of the body, confusion amd loss of consciousness. Once this syntoms appeared, the result is virtually always death. In other words there are no cure for rabies but we can prevent this from getting worst.
I remember way back 2017 he was his friends drinking outside our house. My aunties has a dog and my husband was holding a fish then suddenly the dog grab the fish through my hubby, he was bitten by it. I was inside our house that time they told me after I went to checked on them. I was shocked because I was once bite by our own puppy and I thought I didnt not need extra shots but when my mom knows about what happen, she insist to give a vaccine for rabies they also said I needed it badly. My mom is working in the office and she told me they have lot patient who suffered from rabies and she also witnessed victims that didnt prevent the virus from spreading. Most of them dies alone. So I told my husband I would accompany him and seek medical help. But he said he dont further shots I was mad that time but I got nothing to do. Then he got to work and drive but after 3 days they told me he got a flu and I was nervous and very worried about him, I also told him I will go there and fetch him because he is feeling very bad, his also weak his joints also ached. But he didnt allow me to go there his worried about our kids. He went home alone and we meet in the middle of his trip because he decided to have shots for rabies. I dont to loose hope that time. Because after talking to a nurse they said its really bad to let it go and just wait for it to become worst. But she told she dosent mean my husband is infected with rabies but he has a syntoms and to make it sure they did a laboratory test on him, urine and blood. I was the walking and walking to process whatever he needs. I was nervous and about to cry that time I cant afford to loose him. But where he can find strength that time its all up to me now. I left him with his cousin our driver I wat to cry alone but I suppressed it I know he'll notice it. After how many hours of waiting the results atlast he was detected to have "Dengue" or mild dengue. He was advised to stay for a while to treat it immediately.
I breathe a sigh of relief because he was not on danger after he had a vaccine. The nurse told him that if you wont prevent it from spreading, even how many gallons of antibiotics you can't able to survive the rabies. You also need to comeback to after 3 days and 7 days. Then i was once told him to listen. But were not done yet we need to stay in the hospital because his platelet is going to be down If it will not treated immediately. He was put in serum and for a while we stay in the emergency room. And then hours passed his doctor told him he can go home but he need to take some rest and advised to scan his blood for tomorrow and if it goes up its gonna be alright but it if goes down then he need to be observed. But as for know nothing serious but he need self medication.
After we got home, he told me his tired and wanted to rest but I remember he didn't eat at all so I cooked dinner but he refused it I took some little rice for him and let him rest. Fast forward, the next day the examiner checked his blood and good news his platelet count is normal. Her mother was worried we brought pillows along the hospital but thanks God his very fine now but he need to rest to gain strength.
Conclusion and Prevention:
We eliminate rabies in our dogs, because rabies is a vaccine-preventable disease. Vaccinating our dogs is the most cost-effective strategy for preventing rabies for all of us. If we'll have our dog vaccinated it will surely reduce death attributable dog mediated rabies. Education on dog behavior and bite prevention for both children and adults. The increase of awareness and knowledge in rabies prevention has a control in our community, having a responsible pet owner and following safety precautions is the key for getting the situation worst.
