The 2002 Philippines' "Dada" commercial for McDonald's featured a family enjoying a meal at one of the best fast food restaurants in the nation. This commercial shows a father luring his daughter away from her mother by subtly offering her french fries under the table. The commercial may appear to be a pleasant and enjoyable moment for the family at first glance, but it actually encourages and promotes the use of bribes and dishonesty. The scenario where a man orders fries for his daughter to ensure that she receives preferential treatment from him over his wife.
As a result, the father in this instance is teaching his daughter about dishonesty. Given that a youngster served as the subject and that they are encouraging dishonesty in children, this can be anticipated as immoral behaviour. The mother made a joking reference to his daughter having a "Pango" or pug-nose at one point in the advertisement, which is discriminatory to some people who have this type of nose. In our country, having a pug nose is one of the qualities of being a Filipino, but some people prefer to discriminate against this attribute because, in their eyes, being attractive and charming can only be seen in some who have a sharp nose, therefore this was plainly offensive to some people.
Because we are taught to be honest and respectful to everyone in the Philippines from an early age, people responded quite negatively to this advertisement.
It is obvious from the advertisement that it promotes bribery, lying, dishonesty, and discrimination, which will have an effect on some of the children who see it. It illustrates unequivocally that lying is acceptable in order to get what we want, which is not a smart strategy, especially considering that a child was exploited in the creation of this ad. Therefore, if kids watched this advertisement, it might have given them the impression that lying to acquire what you want is acceptable. Children who watch the commercial will also learn negative values, such as the legitimacy of lying in exchange for food or other wants.
The ideal method to convey this advertisement, in my opinion, would be to highlight the significance of the family that is contentedly dining together in a McDonald's restaurant. The scenes will be of the dad and mom after work. After picking up their daughter from school, they will eat their favourite meal at McDonald's. The father will ask his daughter how her day at school went when they are eating together, and the daughter will respond that she performed well in her school. The mother will then give her daughter some french fries, and the daughter will say "thank you." They emphasized how enjoyable dining with McDonald's was in these instances.
Heyyooooo my dear Readtizen! Maybe some of you here already watched this commercial years ago and wondered why it took down immediately by McDonald's. Actually, this blog is originally a report on our 2nd year semester and upon reviewing it, I wondered if it is okay to present it to you as well here. Anyways, Have a brighter Sunday everyone!! 💖🙌🏼❤
