I made the decision to keep my son home from school yesterday because it was cloudy here in Manila. He was also feeling ill because he contracted a cold last Monday when we were entering and exiting the building. I even assumed Mayor Honey would suspend this Tuesday, but because Manileno children are invincible, she did not declare a suspension. Due to the extremely poor weather, all of the nearby cities—including Mandaluyong, Pasay, Navotas, and others—had to cease their operations early. However, the Local Government of Manila, which is likewise incredibly obstinate, did not actually declare the suspension of schools.

It's fortunate that the torrential rain didn't last too long. Some parents are annoyed when their child's class are abruptly suspended after a long journey and arrival at school. Before notifying the cancellation of school, some local governments are taking an excessively long time. So I actually told myself that it is best to keep the youngster outside during a heavy typhoon or the Habagat rain. The well-being of the kids still has a higher priority for me.

I'm also a little disappointed that they discontinued offering modular classes. Every Friday, they have a modular class, which means kids can complete online assignments at home instead of having to travel to class. However, the teachers are unable to provide the missing students with at least an asynchronous session when they are absent from Monday through Thursday. I'm not sure if my son's school is the only one that does this, but I hope they continue to make the child's education valuable, especially if he misses his class. After all, there is always the internet connection, or even just sending the topics covered that day so that parents can at least teach, isn't that right?

Anyway, I'm attempting to get in touch with his teacher and have inquired about the subjects that were covered on the day that my son was absent. Sadly, she chose not to respond to my query. I believed that no kids would be left behind. But it appears that not everyone is happy with the education system that has been put in place right now. I hope that additional people in government positions will awaken in the coming days, weeks, or months and start considering these issues.

This is actually a great idea worth pondering about. Learning should be flexible.
