Question is a Weapon in Democracy What is democracy? Democracy gives citizens many rights. The number one right in a democracy is the freedom of speech. Since time immemorial, freedom of speech has been under attack by rulers. The kings, queens, and emperors have been mostly totalitarians. Those imperial times are gone. Now, the so-called democracy has been in place in most parts of the globe. Citizens cast votes and choose their rulers, i.e., governments. But, the freedom of speech has been under regular attacks by the so-called democratically elected government rulers! Asking questions is a weapon in democracy. Why the kings and the governments were/are against citizens' freedom of speech? Free speech permits people to engage in conversations about the country. People make assessments of the quality of services and facilities. They discuss the performances of the ministers. More importantly, people ask questions about corrupt ministers. Citizens charge the ruling government with corruption - corruption on land reforms, road developments, employment, health services, education, etc. If a person or a group of people continue to ask questions against the ruling government, they are charged with false legal suits by government officials. The governments look at citizens' questions as weapons to fight corruption. Governments suppress the questions of the citizens. It happened in many places in the world. Recently, in our place, YouTubers have been charged with false legal cases for raising questions about the government's corruption and crimes against the people. The ruling political party members have been committing crimes, but the government does nothing to stop them. But the government suppresses independent content creators and news forums from raising questions on their social media channels. Concluding thoughts Free speech comes under the fundamental right of freedom. Asking questions about corruption is a challenging task. But asking questions is a duty of the citizens. Democracy is just a name because rights of people are not saved anymore. Many countries where government are ruled out on the name of Democracy crashes human rights.
That is why the citizens MUST raise QUESTON => that is the only way to regain some power of democracy. That is the main idea of the article :)
Raising questions in democracy brings solutions for Common people and made notice to government levels.
The challenge is on the common mass whether to protest or be silent. There is always a fear of getting marginalized by the pro-government people in society.
To the people reading this, if you live in a democracy with freedom of speech don´t give for settle that. I live in Cuba, a country where for ask Freedom or point the failure or corruption of the government can send you many years to prison. The government deploy a hug marketing campaign to international level to avoid the totalitarian image, but we the people suffer the lack of liberties. Many young persons are in prison for pacific protest against the government, meanwhile a pro-government music is in his house after sexually abuse of at least 30 women.
I remember, during our early high school days in the late 1970s, we used to read news about the Cuban socialist revolution. I thought socialist reforms might have made improvements. I get a clear picture of the current status from your comment.
They start with the promess of improvements of the people life and in the beginning they accomplish to earn followers, but at the same time they started to eliminate o limit liberties for those oppose or criticism them. Today that lack of liberties affect all the people, they have control of everything and can give fake statistics to international organizations. In era before internet they commit crimes that only few persons know, today people show evidence of that crimes, but they still have a great mechanism of propaganda and influential international accomplices. They dress military soldiers as civilians to repress the protesters and say that ¨the people¨ defend them. They don´t have hesitations on call ¨mercenaries, worms, cockroaches¨ or any other disparaging term to the people for ask freedom or better life conditions.
Well said! Asking the right questions is a good weapon against a corruptive government and fake democracy.
The people must not stop thinking and asking questions about corruption.
Keep raising questions that is the ammunition needed for the weapon to fight corrupt democracies. At first it may go on deaf ears. Bring awareness and bring others to ask the same or similar questions. Numbers, numbers and numbers!!Eventually they will determine if they don't act on them they won't be elected again.
Rightly said. More numbers of citizens must continue protesting against corrupt democracies. And the awareness should propagate among the voters.
Even those who claim to be the most democratic and defend freedom of expression are in reality dictators and royalists. You only need to touch their nerve endings to understand this.
Asking questions about corruption is a must.

True democracy affect the government, especially when citizens ask questions that throw them off balance.... they remain blank
Citizens must raise their voices against government corruption.
This is very true. It is hard for an average citizen to practice democracy. Questions raised on an ongoing situation that is not favoured by the government is dismissed illegally.
