The World is a stage
Have you ever been to a circus or a talent show? Perhaps you haven't been to one just like me, but I believe you would have watched one before, either on the television or on the internet.
Talent performance or circus is about doing something extraordinary that an average individual might find hard to do. Seeing such a performance wows the audience, and they are entertaining, thrilling, and hair-raising to watch.
One thing you should know about stage performances is that; they require a lot of practice to produce the seamless performance the audience admires. Without numerous preparation and practice, these stage performers won't be able to perform with high precision and accuracy. And this concept applies to everything in life.
The more you practice; the better you become at it. I didn't write this article to discuss "practice."
Before the advent of cameras, there was nothing like videos or cinema. There were only theatres, and it was in theatres that play and any dramatic performances are being acted.
Theatres and performance stages are made up of two main parts; the house and the stage. The house is the part where the audience is seated, while the stage is where the performance happens.
According to Williams Shakespeare in his play: "As you like it." He wrote that:
All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players'
The world is indeed a stage filled with a plethora of actors and audiences. The difference between a normal theatre and the world; is that in the world everyone is an actor and also an audience at the same time. We are all actors and audience at the same time. It is an intertwined process.
Since the world is a stage, imagine yourself as a magician; who is trying to perform a magical feat. If you successfully pull a trick or tricks, at the end of the show you hear the audience clapping and going crazy as they are mesmerized by your feat.
But imagine while performing your feat, you made a mistake and you couldn't continue; this would be tragic not for your career but also yourself because magical tricks sometimes involve you doing things risky things and can be fatal when they go wrong.
You are just like the magician I asked you to imagine. And the stage you are performing on is "life." In this stage of life, there is no room for mistakes because people might not give you a second chance.
Achieving a breakthrough of life's difficulties is a feat to perform, if you are successful everyone would want to associate with you. They would celebrate you, even people who once mocked you by telling you to your face that: you can't achieve what you've achieved. They will make stories out of your life journey and make you a point of motivation for others and endless is the list of what the world's audience is going to do.
What about if you fail while performing the feat?
Most people will look down on you, they would laugh at you, and would call you a failure. They won't listen to you even when you have meaningful things to say. Most won't give you a second chance to redeem yourself.
That is the kind of stage we all perform on, a stage where the audience will highlight every one of your mistakes and imperfection.
But dear friend, don't get frightened or develop stage fright because of the unwelcoming and unpleasant remarks the audience (the world) makes towards you. Chest out, don't let their booing and negativity get to you, just like professional actors; focus on your play and learn from the mistakes of others.
We all can't be as famous or as good as Ronaldo, Messi, Tom Hanks, Eminem, etc. But, we all can be happy if we choose to. So choose happiness within yourself, and be your own biggest fan.
