Does Television violence have a negative effect on the society?
I haven't updated read cash in more than three days, and this is because I've started going back to school.
If you're my avid reader or you follow other Nigerians on this platform, you probably already know that university lecturers have been on strike for the past eight months. Now that the strike has been called, there has to be a hurry to save the academic year.
I felt I had to write today and say hello to my friends over here, even if it won't be feasible for me to write an article and engage every day.
I have chosen to download a prompt book where I would receive themes to write about each day rather than having to think of what to write in order to save time when trying to publish an article.
Thus, this is the prompt for today.
"Many people believe that television violence has a negative effect on society because it promotes violence. Do you agree or disagree?"
My view
Without a question, one of the major influences on today's culture is television, which until recently was supplanted by smartphones.
The world of today, however, still depends on television in many ways. For daily news, those who don't have access to the internet rely on television.
Millions of people, particularly youngsters, depend heavily on television in their daily lives. I recall how, as children, we imitated the actions and demeanor of our favorite television characters. But the crucial query is whether violence on television has a detrimental impact on society.
It is a challenging topic to answer because violence has long been the standard and is now a part of reality, despite the fact that most television channels are constrained by strong broadcast regulations that forbid them from presenting excessive amounts of violence.
According to me, the majority of violence results from social immorality rather than the violence portrayed in media. Reading or watching the news today exposes one to gruesome stories that make one shudder.
People, especially children, are greatly influenced by television. Even while television may only be reporting on the violence that occurs in the world, viewing too much of it can have an impact, especially on younger viewers who may come to associate violence with everyday life.
Although we cannot deny that our reality is one of negativity and violence, viewing more violence will worsen this psychological effect and make violence seem more commonplace in society.
I believe that television should fill a critical need by informing more viewers of the reasons why using violence is never acceptable and should be avoided in all spheres of life.
Conclusion
Less toxic content and more moral and nice content should be broadcast on television. It is risky when we fill our minds and subconscious minds with negativity or violence because everything we watch on television registers in our subconscious minds.
I believe that less violence should be shown on television and that more morally upright content should be broadcast.
Although, in my opinion, television does not have a significant impact on societal violence. I think it's one of the causes, so it's better if violent films or television programs are dropped from the schedule or aired less frequently.
