Do more than dreaming

Achievements of excellence demands more than mere dreaming but taking decisive steps for success. If wishes were horses, beggars would ride, goes an old maxin. Many students in fantasy wish to be a doctor or a lawyer or an engineer or an important person in life. Achievement is never a product of fantasy but of actions of faith in the right direction.

Great achievers in history are people who turn their dreams into discoveries in various aspects of life. Martin Luther King Jr had a dream and worked to actualize the freedom of political rights for the black in the United States of America. In 2008, Barack Obama worked tenaciously against all odds and became the first black man to be elected into the White House the product of one man's dream. Thomas Edison had a vision for a glowing light through electric bulbs and laboured tirelessly until he realised the goal. You've got to do more than thinking but take steps and do more than planning but pursue your goals and do more than playing but prepare for your examinations.

Sydney wrote out his goals for his academics at the beginning of last semester. He wrote out all these courses in a book and wrote 'A' in front of each. His dream was to get 'A' in all his courses. He brought the book to class and showed everyone. He was fascinated about the idea that he would score A. During classes, he will just sit down and be looking at the book, smiling. He would only listen to lectures and not jot down anything.

Towards the mid-semester break, some of his friends began to talk sense into his head to do more than just dreaming but work towards his dream. He didn't listen. All through the semester, his 12 in one notebook was empty. He only wrote A in all the units. At the end, examination time came and we did the exam. He was not even reading. He went out partying and clubbing with friends. He kept a long chain of girlfriends.

Even after the exams, he still kept boasting that he would have 'A's in his courses. We were wondering if you will bribe the lecturers. The results came out and we were eager to see his result first. He had 'E's in all his courses. He managed to have one 'D'. I think that was when he came back from his dreamland and he began to work. If you see him now, he is very serious more than before. He has arrived for his dreamland.

You cannot afford to be complacent with your present achievement. There is always room for better off your situation. If it is your principle to clamour to do more than the common students, you will soon discover that you are prospering as a champion among the students. Achievements in life is a product of dream and diligence. If you dare to dream for success in your academics, you must endeavour to do more to be diligent in your work. Success is always for students who attend the extra-ordinary by adding 'extra' to 'ordinary'.
