Today is the second Sunday of the month of November. Another day to celebrate the Lord and hear his message. It's good to ponder his message in order for us to be reminded of the things we should and shouldn't be doing according in his law, the law of God. For our body is not living for this world alone but also beyond therefore we should learn and live out the law that give us life beyond this world we have. The heaven which will give us eternal life and salvation.
Let us ponder the word of God in today's gospel and live with it as it strengthen us as we continue to do our daily mission and purpose.
Gospel
Mark 12:38-44
In his teaching he said, 'Beware of the scribes who like to walk about in long robes, to be greeted respectfully in the market squares, to take the front seats in the synagogues and the places of honour at banquets; these are the men who devour the property of widows and for show offer long prayers. The more severe will be the sentence they receive.' He sat down opposite the treasury and watched the people putting money into the treasury, and many of the rich put in a great deal. A poor widow came and put in two small coins, the equivalent of a penny. Then he called his disciples and said to them, 'In truth I tell you, this poor widow has put more in than all who have contributed to the treasury; for they have all put in money they could spare, but she in her poverty has put in everything she possessed, all she had to live on.'
Reflection
The gospel today talks about two person the scribes, the rich and the widow. Wherein the scribes who is preaching for his own goodness and richness. For his own benifit, one that do it in order to take advantage the others. Jesus is telling us to beware of these kind of people because they are wearing a mask to hide themselves and their real identity. The second is the rich who is giving their contribution to the treasury with a great deal but it was just a part of the bigger deal they have in real life. And the last is the widow, who put her contribution to the treasury which is the only penny left for her to live.
Do you know someone from the three of them?
The scribes
The false preacher, who ask people for money in exchange for the readings they read from the Bible. Have you encountered them in the streets or on the bus? For I meet them in this life. I heard them sharing on the bus. Reading a certain gospel in the Bible and then asking people for money. Is that the purpose of the Bible? Does reading it requires payment? I believe it's not. And I am absolutely disagreeing with the facts that they used the Bible for earning money. Making the Bible a business. Having great advantage to the people they think they could use for them to become rich.
The rich
This people is the one who gave huge than the usual contribution. Being proud that they gave more than what others could. But little did we know that the contributiom they had given was just a small part and just a left over of the great richness they acquire in life. I have known few of this people. Sometimes, I am this person as well. When life gives favor and have few bucks left over than the basic needs and expenses then that's the only time I gave what I have. Which is very wrong. I maybe not a rich one but doing just like what the rich had done meaning I am no difference.
The widow
I have known this type of people. Who learn to gave all what they've got. They believe that giving all is not a problem because in the first place it wasn't their to keep. They gave like their life depend with it. And some reasons because their life alone and living is much more than they deserve.
Between the rich and the widow who gave more? The rich who give great deal or a widow who have her penny? If we look deeper it was the widow because she gave her contribution with heart and love believing that it's not hers and she is willing to give what's she posses. The rich people contribute less because they only gave a part of their great deal. Their contribution is just a spare of the richness they have in life.
Conclusion
In this life we should be just like the widow that gave her all to God than the rich who give only what's he spare from the richness he had in life. The widow had a heart full of gratitude that the Lord deserve because he gave more than what we deserve in this life. Whenever we don't hesitate to give to the Lord what he deserve we received so much blessings because of a grateful attitude. It is the Lord that gave us life, strength, intelligence, and all why hesitant to give it back to him. Glorify his goodness and mercy. When we are ask to have time for the Lord never put God on the option but put him first in everything you do. When we are ask to give for the lord may it be time, treasure and talent, always say yes for the Lord without hesitation without second thoughts. Don't make the Lord become a spare because you will be like that rich in the gospel which is not right. Let's learn to give our best and all to him because he gave himself and his all for us.
That would be all for today friends. Thank you so much. I hope you learned a thing or two. God bless you always. And I appreciate you all.
